The truth about gurus & finding success

The truth about gurus & finding success

It seems that there are gurus everywhere promising to teach you all they know and share the secrets of their success. But I am about to reveal to you the truth. Some will tempt you with free trials and taster sessions, and others boast of the millionaire lifestyle their get-rich-quick scheme has delivered to other ordinary people like you. The real secret, however, is much closer to home (your home). It genuinely is free too: but if you haven’t already got it, I don’t believe any guru or teacher can give it to you. You certainly can’t buy it anywhere.

It is called having a dream and, more importantly, having an unquenchable desire to achieve that dream.

Yes, it is that simple! Listen Up!

I’m sorry to burst anyone’s bubble, but the truth is that ‘level of desire’ will determine the limit of each and every individual. Unless you can find passionate desire somewhere within yourself, and link it to your dreams, you are always going to struggle to achieve them. In fact, I am certain that you will fail! And I don’t just mean desire in the way that you fancy an ice cream on a hot day, or you start looking forward to the weekend halfway through a tough week. I’m talking about the insatiable craving for water after a 24-hour hike through a desert, or the fist-pounding thrash for air when you're drowning.

Life or Ice Cream?

Those that have achieved outstanding success in business, in sport or any other area of life can teach us much about ‘how’ to follow in their footsteps. And if you find the right guru for you, by all means, pay for their strategy and guidance. But I promise you that if you do not have a level of desire that is closer to the ‘need to breath’ than the ‘want of ice cream’ then you will probably be wasting your money.

The good news is that all of us have a burning desire in us somewhere: you just need to make the discovery and connect it to your dreams. A good starting point might be to think of those you love and try to quantify in your heart just how much! So before you spend another pound on learning from a guru see if you can identify and then link your desire (and I mean the ‘burning passion’ one) to the dream that you ’think’ you have.

Happy soul searching and dream-igniting!

PS. my personal dreams and motivation stem from this verse: “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled”Matthew 5:6

Martin, I liked your thought provoking piece. Thanks for sharing. I'd like to add a thought, if I may? I have worked with people, myself included, frustrated by being told they just don't want something bad enough. I believe there are several things missing when we are not achieving our dreams. If the long-held dream is as vivid and real as the blood that runs when I cut myself, with desire that burns my throat and threatens to destroy me, I believe it is sometimes because we hold somewhere within us, a negative belief or feeling, a mesh that is so painfully thin, so, so fine, that I can't even see it is affecting me. I am blind to its influence. And no matter how parched, how hard, how persistent we are, until we melt that fine mesh, and build a better belief or feeling that serves us well, we will continue to miss our dreams. I got lost in the welsh hills once on a hot day without water. I was that desperate that I banged on the door of a closed pub to ask to buy a bottle of water. You are right; that real desperation, the physical pain that went with the dehydration, fear drove me to do something I wouldn't normally do, to make a scene, make a loud noise... and maybe that too is part of the secret of turning a dream into reality. Being fearless and doing the unthinkable? Thanks for making me think further about it all!!
