The Truth About "Doing It Yourself"?

The Truth About "Doing It Yourself"

Do you sew your own clothes? I know some people who do, but I don’t have the time or the inclination to learn how myself, and I don’t think I’d be good at it, so I don’t.

Do you cut your own hair? I have done, years ago, but the evidence provided by my grade 7 pictures tells me I don’t have a gift for it, so I’ve decided to delegate that task to someone with training and experience.

I do most of my own cooking. I love food. I love learning and experimenting with recipes, and more often than not I’m happy with the results, so it’s something I’m interested in and willing to put time and effort into. Lots of people don’t feel the same way, so they go out or order in – and that’s their choice.

We all make choices in our lives about what we are interested in doing for ourselves and what we prefer to pay others to do. It’s one of the perks of modern life. I pay someone (lots of people, really) to make my clothes for me, and there are people who pay me to m build their financial plans and help them structure their finances and investments so they feel comfortable and confident about their futures.

There are a ton of ways to do it yourself. The companies that host online trading platforms and robo-advisors are doing their best to convince you that managing your own investments and financial plans is something anyone and everyone can and should do for themselves.

Well, if you’re smart and successful and you have money to invest, you could take the time and energy to learn how to build and manage a portfolio that will “maximize your alpha” and minimize your risk. Maybe you don’t need help maintaining the discipline to stick to a well-crafted long-term plan (once you’ve built it, by yourself) when it seems like everything is falling apart in the world. Maybe you don’t want to consult with an expert when you have a difficult financial decision to make, or someone to toss ideas around with when thinking about your future plans. Maybe you can find a way to protect yourself and your family if you can’t work or you’re no longer here. Maybe you can.

Look, there’s a lot of pressure on us as women to do everything and to do it all perfectly. But you know what? You don’t HAVE to do it all by yourself, and maybe you don’t want to! Maybe you’d rather work with someone who will listen to what you want, tell you what you need to hear, and help you get where you want to go in life.

If you’d like to talk about how I can help you, book a call and let’s see if we click. I can save you a ton of time, energy, stress and uncertainty.

You don’t have to go it alone.
