The TRUTH of Debates

I start with a quote I read recently by, of all people, Anne Hathaway. It goes… ‘the only people who are mad at you for speaking the TRUTH are those people who are living a lie. Keep seeking the TRUTH. We cannot ignore the “elephant” in the room, the Presidential Debate held September 10th aired and hosted by ABC News. There was exaggeration and outright lies offered by both candidates because this is what politicians do to get elected.

Mickey Moss, M.ED., a connection of mine recently shared “If you have to watch a debate to decide how you vote, you will probably vote based on personality. This is likely because you don't know (and possibly don't care) about the policies or the platform that the party or politician stands for. In other words, you may be taken captive by hollow and deceptive philosophy and empty deceit.”? He went on to share “It’s not so much about what a person says, but what they do or have done (voting record, policies enacted). That is the standard by which politicians should be judged. A politician's words do not matter in an election if they don’t align with their actions. It is their policies that impact our lives.”

In conjunction with these statements, he offered scripture from Colossians, the second chapter, starting at verse 8…

?See to it that no one takes you captive by?philosophy and?empty deceit, according to?human tradition, according to the?elemental spirits[a]?of the world, and not according to Christ.?9?For?in him the whole fullness of deity dwells?bodily,?10?and?you have been filled in him, who is?the head of all rule and authority.?11?In him also?you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by?putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,?12?having been buried with him in baptism, in which?you were also raised with him through faith in?the powerful working of God,?who raised him from the dead.?

Seeking Truth in this season is difficult, but I feel that this quote and Mickey’s statement provides some great direction. Who gets angered by the speaking of TRUTH? Is personality or accomplishments important to you as you cast your vote come November. Are you being “taken in” by the lies, and “may be taken captive by hollow and deceptive philosophy and empty deceit.”? As he says ““It’s not so much about what a person says, but what they do or have done (voting record, policies enacted). That is the standard by which politicians should be judged.”

Are you asking questions or just accepting what the “main street” media is feeding you? Have you sought out facts, looked at the evidence, and came to a conclusion based on TRUTH?? Does a politician’s words matter in an election if they don’t align with their actions. It is their policies that impact our lives!
