Truth Behind UAE’s "Gambling Law" its Fake News ??

I'm sure most of you have already read many articles saying:

  • UAE is legalizing gambling?
  • UAE's first step towards gambling?

But is all of that any true?

Let's find out the real truth behind today's news which is filled underneath the "clickbait titles."

We all know that right now the UAE doesn't allow gambling. It has religious laws and regulations, so they are bound not to do anything like that.?

So Gambling in UAE = Big No?

But recently the UAE has made a new rule. The United Arab Emirates has established the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), signifying a significant development with potential implications for the licensing of casinos in a nation where gambling is presently prohibited.?

The GCGRA's mandate, as outlined by the official WAM news agency, encompasses the:

  • Coordination of regulatory functions
  • Licensing management
  • The facilitation of economic opportunities within the realm of commercial gaming.

But then why is everyone saying it's related to gambling somehow??

Here's the reason ??

The official statement did not explicitly define the term "gaming" with regard to gambling, nor did it specifically mention the prospect of casino operations.?

Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that the appointed senior officials entrusted with overseeing the GCGRA bring extensive experience from within the gaming industry.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the gaming regulatory authority is Mr. Kevin Mullally. Mr. Mullally brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as the Executive Director of the Missouri Gaming Commission, responsible for overseeing riverboat casinos in the U.S. state of Missouri.?

The WAM has given their statement to summarize it:

The new gaming authority wants to make gaming safe and fair. They want everyone to follow the rules and be responsible. They'll make sure everyone plays by the rules, give out licenses, and help gaming make money while being responsible.

But the suspicions arise at this news.?

James Murren is in charge of the GCGRA board. He used to lead a big casino group in the United States.

In the rich Gulf state, gambling is against Islamic laws, and approximately 90% of its population consists of foreign residents. So even if they are not religiously bound to do gambling there are country laws that restrict them.?

In 2022, Wynn Resorts, a U.S.-based casino operator, proposed the idea to establish an "integrated resort" with gaming facilities in the emirate of Ras al-Khaimah, one of the UAE's seven constituent emirates, alongside Dubai.?

Construction work has commenced on Wynn Al Marjan Island, scheduled for an early 2027 opening.

Will Gambling Become Legal In UAE?

People have talked about the UAE maybe allowing gambling, but it's never happened. Over the years, there have been occasional speculations about the UAE potentially lifting its ban on gambling, but such a change has not occurred.?

Instead, the UAE has undertaken a series of reforms to enhance its attractiveness for talent and tourism, particularly in response to competition from neighboring countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar.?

These reforms include permitting unmarried couples to live together, relaxing alcohol restrictions, and offering long-term residency options.?

But gambling is right now not being legalized. Maybe in the future but as of today nothing like that is going to happen.
