Tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m an accountant who has worked in the public sector and now a charity most of my working life. I live in south London with my wife and have two grown children.
In my spare time, I listen to quite a lot of rock and post-punk music and will get back to going to more concerts in the near future, I hope. I’m also learning to play the drums and play football rather slowly at my age!
Why did you want to become a trustee of the NHS Confederation?
I’ve long had a passion for the NHS, working in it and then being a public governor of a foundation trust. I see my involvement with the Confederation as another strand to my involvement with the NHS, but in a different way. Hopefully my previous experience in and out of the sector brings something to the table.

What excites you the most about the direction of the NHS Confederation, and how will you contribute towards it?
I like the fact that the NHS Confederation is right there observing, commenting on and sounding out on all matters relating to the NHS and takes a UK approach, which is novel for me.
Having a newish chair, a new chief executive and other fresh faces and all the change going on in the NHS means there’s a lot to get my teeth into. Also, being an accountant and chair of the Audit and Risk Committee allows me to indulge my whim that everyone follows the rules!
What is your proudest achievement?
That’s got to be having two great grown-ups as my children. Providing a home to a retired racing greyhound was special too.
How would you fill an unexpected day off?
I’m very lazy so the day would be the latter half of the day after a good sleep. The second part of the day would involve some reading, playing the drums and playing football.
