In October 2021, I was privileged to have been invited to serve as a member of the National Emergencies Trust's Survivors Advisory Forum, a unique committee made up of individuals who have a profound lived experience of a national emergency, such as a terrorist attack.
The trust is able to draw on our experience to guide every aspect of our work. From how we can make the process of applying for funds as compassionate as possible for survivors and their families. To how we can raise and distribute funds in a respectful way. Providing valuable support to create the best outcomes and experience for those impacted by emergencies in the future.
Today was a seminal moment as we had our first in-person meeting since the end of the pandemic, which also included members from our Equity Scrutiny Group, wider staff team and Board, acting as a timely reminder of why we exist and our charitable objects as well as our strategic priorities and arguably more importantly to build and strengthen ties.
National Emergencies Trust Formed in response to The Manchester Arena bombing, the Grenfell Tower fire, and the terror attacks in London at Westminster Bridge and London Bridge, which sparked incredible waves of public generosity, which made a huge difference to the lives of survivors and their loved ones, when voluntary sector experts and emergency survivors came together to conceive the National Emergencies Trust. We are an independent charity dedicated to responding to UK disasters.
The Trust was launched by its Royal Patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, in November 2019.
