Is trust a reason to object to remote working?
The power of the internet has changed everything. You can buy nearly anything – truly, anything on the web. It has also changed the way we work and interact.
The COVID pandemic has accelerated our awareness to remote working, and it is now considered standard working practice in many organisations. NOT ALL. Has this created an im-balance in workplace operations and the accessibility to top talent.
A remote work dilemma is emerging:
·??????Are you in favour for a 100% remote working or a hybrid model? In my view there’s no point considering an office-based role as this time has passed.
·??????Will an organisation lose their competitiveness when attracting top talent if they offer a less remote working option? Is this a serious consideration when reviewing job offers?
When employees have the freedom and flexibility to organise work around their lives, rather than living around work, a new workplace and management paradigm emerges.
I remember spending 2-3 hours a day travelling to and from work. Being herded like cattle from the train to the underground or bus. Being called part-timer if I was late due to the transport challenges or if I left before the inefficient fools.
Great work requires connection and flexibility. A great workplace provides both when employees can do their work in the space best suited for it.

Then in 2015, I created JIE Search. I wanted to spend more time with my family. I also had the undeniable fire to create a successful business. In 2022, JIE Search is 4 people. We all work from home, hold Zoom meetings and have many telephone conversations.
However, we have a hybrid working model. As the leader for our business, I believe the team need face-to-face time. We need the in-person environment to collaborate, communicate, discuss, learn and confront challenges, ideas, strategies and successes.
