We’ve heard the statement ‘Trust the process’ from a very young age, and we encounter individuals whom we believe have succeeded within the system. These people serve as our inspiration, leading us to remind ourselves to, ‘Trust the process.’ Do trust the process. However, after years of experience, I want to share something else with you. Yes, trust the process, but blindly trusting it, especially when coming from a disadvantaged background, is something I would describe as playing foul in your own existence.
The rigged system?
You find yourself caught in a system that seems inherently biased against the disadvantaged, particularly young African children or impoverished children worldwide. This system, with its prescribed path?—?education, employment, family formation, taxation, and national contribution?—?feels both restrictive and unjust. Over time, it has conditioned individuals to become overly reliant on external directives, stifling personal autonomy and creativity. The result is a generation of humans behaving more like robots, devoid of the ability to chart their own course through life. People who feel useless when they don’t have someone telling them what to do. How did we get here??
In today’s world, the unemployment crisis looms large, especially in Africa. Many are compelled to leave their homeland in search of menial jobs abroad, hoping to improve their circumstances after years of schooling and sometimes even achieving prestigious degrees. Yet, the job market evolves, leaving these individuals adrift, unsure of how to navigate their new reality. The system continues to produce graduates ill-equipped to face the challenges of the modern workforce, yet society blames them for their inability to adapt.
Coming from a place of poverty amplifies the struggles faced in the real world. The demands of the working class are relentless, and the promise of a better future seems increasingly distant. The harsh truth is that for many, life may never significantly improve beyond their wildest dreams.
This leads us to a critical question: Is there a way out of this cycle, this rat race??
Is there a way out of this cycle??
Being born into a particular system is a prison. But to come out of that prison you have to be able to acknowledge you are in the prison and have the will to come out of it. Your prison is your reality that shapes every aspect of your life. From birth, this system becomes your universe?—?a familiar landscape that, despite your awareness of a better existence, remains largely uncharted territory. You have heard of people who believe that certain spaces are for certain people and some believe they are not deserving to be there. That is a mentality problem that needs improvement. The journey towards improvement can be daunting, a labyrinth filled with obstacles and dead ends. It is a new path. Yet, you persist, driven by hope and the occasional glimmer of success, though often fleeting.
The system imposes limits, defining the parameters of your existence based on your starting point. The saying goes, “Born into poverty, you’re more likely to die poor; born into wealth, you’re more likely to remain affluent,”?. It’s not merely a reflection of character or effort but a testament to the profound influence of our early environments on our destinies.
Our experiences shape our subconscious, programming us to navigate the world in ways that reflect our past. To transcend this programmed path, to escape the confines of our upbringing, requires a fundamental shift?—?a transformation of mindset and possibly even physical surroundings. This isn’t about relocating from one impoverished area to another but about internal migration, evolving from a limited perspective to one that embraces possibilities.
