Trust is the Foundation of an Equitable Workplace

We don’t always put enough emphasis on trust, but we should. Without it, how can we create a workplace where everyone feels they belong? Who wants to go to work side-eyeing their manager or colleagues, wondering if they’re being supported—or worse, if they’re being judged? And imagine being a manager constantly questioning whether your team is productive while working remotely. It’s exhausting for everyone.
We have to get back to basics. Trust is essential, and it’s time to prioritize it if we want to see real change in our work environments.
Here are three things you can start doing today to build trust:
Be Transparent – Share openly and honestly about decisions, even the tough ones.
Listen and Humanize – Truly listen to your colleagues’ experiences. We all have a story, and those stories matter.
Remove Barriers – When conflict arises, focus on removing obstacles, not creating more.
As Drake said, "I’m trusting everybody but I’m cautious." In the workplace, trust shouldn’t come with caution—it should be something we can rely on.
Let’s rebuild trust from the ground up. Because without it, there’s no tangible equity.
