Trust – do you foster it?

I started in the post today by highlighting some of the behaviours you may have experienced when there is a lack of trust in your work relationships.

How does it feel when someone:

? breaks your confidence

? lies to you

? repeatedly bumps or cancels your meetings

? lets you down

? takes credit for your work

? keeps you in the dark

I know I’ve definitely experienced all of them.?

One of the most common is when your manager runs late or cuts short or even worse doesn’t turn up for your 1:1. They’ll tell you that there was another pressing priority and sure that will be the case from time to time, after all emergency situations do arise.

However, if it’s down to poor time management, an inability to say ‘no’ to others, an assumption that you’ll be fine etc, etc then it’s just not OK.

?? Have you experienced any of these?

?? How does it make you feel?

There’s lots to think about here, so my starting challenge to you is to ask yourself the following questions;

Do I really:

?? Know anything about the people in my team?

?? Dedicate quality time to them?

?? Listen to them and actually hear what they are saying?

?? Keep things they share secret if they ask me to?

?? Come through for them when I have promised something?

?? Show vulnerability with them?

If your answer is ‘yes’ to all of these then that’s great.? You are actively building trust ??

If your answer to any of them is ‘no’ then, Why not? ??
