President Trump's travel ban took effect, targeting visitors from six nations — Syria, Libya, Iran, Sudan, Yemen and Somalia. Airports remained “mostly calm,” a stark contrast from the first version of the ban. But Hawaii sued, challenging a part of the ban: The Supreme Court ruled visitors who have "a bona fide relationship" with a US person or entity should be exempt, and the White House doesn't think that should include aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws or grandparents. #TrumpTravelBan
Nike confirmed a pilot program to sell directly on Amazon.com after a decade of talks and resistance by the sportswear retailer, The Wall Street Journal reports. The partnership will focus on cracking down on unauthorized sellers and tightening Nike’s brand image over growing sales, although ample opportunities exist in ventures like Amazon’s Prime Wardrobe, in which rival Adidas is participating. Nike also announced it beat Wall Street earnings; shares rose more than 8% at the open. #NikeAmazon
Illinois is on the verge of becoming the first US state to get a 'junk' rating. The Prairie State has been plodding through a multi-billion-dollar debt crisis for years without a budget. A July 1 deadline approaches for the third consecutive year "without much progress," says US News & World Report, which notes that pundits have taken to calling Illinois the "Venezuela of the Midwest."
Senate Republicans are "seriously considering" retaining an Obamacare tax on high incomes in a bid to revive a replacement bill, The New York Times reports. Version one met with enough GOP resistance to ensure it wouldn't pass, and now nine Republican senators oppose it. Several polls show scant support for the Senate approach, but a similar bill with similar polling numbers eventually passed in the House. #ACARepeal
Filling your gas tank for the July 4 holiday hasn't been this cheap since 2005. The national average is $2.21, which is also well below the 10-year average of $3.14, according to GasBuddy. As many as 60% of Americans will take road trips of over 500 miles, the services senior petroleum analyst told CNBC. #GasPricesJuly4
