Trump Indictment - Is this the end of the US as we know it?

What makes the US great is not that it has the big military or nuclear bombs. Its that they have a set of astoundingly uniquely values that broke the mould when it came to how society should be run. For much of human history we have always been run by dictatorial rulers. They could be autocrats, they could be theocrats, they could be emperors, sultans or kings. Human history is littered with societies, nations, states that are ruled with dictatorial fiat. This was the reality throughout human history.

The west was founded on a long trajectory of liberating values.?For the first time ever, you truly have individual dignity, freedom of speech and many unbelievable ontological principles that were unassailable for a very long time. This doesn’t mean that the US doesn’t have a checkered past, it doesn’t mean it’s a perfect society but at least the Bill of Rights and The Constitution have enshrined principles that made sure that everybody from around the world looked at this model of how a society should be organized. This is why until today people are trying to get into USA from all over the world.?They’re not running to get into Cuba, North Korea, China, Russia or most other countries in the world. They are trying to get into USA because of those values.

I am about as socially liberal as they come with most issues and sometimes a bit conservative on financial issues. Live and let live is my motto. I don’t want to be identified as part of any political party. I prefer to stay independent.

In the last few years, those values have deteriorated. Those in power have no problem violating the ontological principles to go after Trump. The values are unimportant because it is more important to get rid of him that following the values.

I feel that those who are going after Trump are profoundly more dangerous than Trump could ever be even if he puts on his most villainous hat. What his haters are saying is “throw away those values and let’s get him locked up so he can’t run for president” . This amounts to politicization of the justice system to go after your political opponents. That’s what banana republics are defined by, that’s how you know a country is a banana republic. This is what happens when medicine, public health, academia, justice system, FBI, large companies, and HR departments have been overrun by political ideology.

Regardless of your politics, I would ask you to stop for a minute and look at the bigger picture. See the forest from the trees. Once you remove those ontological principles, it doesn’t take long for the country to be the same as other countries in history and currently around the world. For example, it’s not as though Venezuelans are inherently incapable of democracy and Americans in their genes are somehow full of Liberty. It’s that there was this miraculous set of values that were enshrined and codified in the American experiment that made it the great country. It’s from these values we became the people we are.

I think it’s a disaster what’s happening to Trump. Whether I like him or not doesn’t matter, but what’s happening to him is not in alignment with our ontological principles. Trump but over 70 million Americans did, almost the same number as voted for Biden. To many Americans Trump represents the only cure to established corruption in the two-party system in the United States. He is an existential threat to the system as it exists. That’s why the establishment wants to get rid of him.

Is it a good idea for a Manhattan D.A. to indict on charges that the federal government who was very keen bringing down Trump said repeatedly that there is no case here? This is a nothing burger. But the optics is what his opponents are after. Even if indictment doesn’t need to stick. They still win in the game of politics. ?They will arrest him, fingerprint him, they get mugshot of him and use that against him in the next presidential election. Things could backfire as well. This may motivate his supporters even more.

?I encourage people to think bigger and be decent. You hate Trump, that’s fine. I’m not a huge fan either. There are a million reasons to find him objectionable, but the ontological values we have should supersede your hatred for Trump. I say let him run for president. Show the people that your values are better for America than his. Give the power to the people and let them freely vote.

I fear that going after Trump like this can lead to civil war and lead to the downfall of the United States. This will empower countries like China and Russia. I hope I am wrong.

Jazz, very well put! I have to agree with you. This is very dangerous, and very near sighted. Great written article!

100% agree and I feel my view is very similar. Trump is many things, but at least he`s not a warmonger ??♂? He didn't invade anyone, he had Russia and China in check and even went to North Korea. His "craziness" for want of a better term was his main advantage, too unpredictable to mess with. His opposition however is ignoring serious issues around crime, education, healthcare, and homeless, to name a few, in their own backyard whilst they arm another nation to the teeth. The United States is in decline, I believe the best way forward would be a Desantis/gabbard ticket!
