Assassination Attempt Against Trump in Pennsylvania Rally - USA

On 13 July, former US President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler. The assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired shots from an elevated position over 130 yards away. Trump was grazed on the ear, and a bystander was killed, with two others critically injured. The Secret Service responded swiftly, neutralizing the shooter with a direct headshot. Authorities later discovered an explosive device in the assailant's vehicle. Further investigations are underway.

Security Related SoE Extended - El Salvador

The Salvadoran Legislative Assembly extended the state of emergency until at least 11 August, citing the need to continue the fight against criminal organizations and ensure the safety of the population. This extension, supported by 67 legislators allied with the current government, maintains the suspension of certain constitutional guarantees, including the right to defence and limits on detention without a hearing. Initially, the measures were put in place after a gang-related attack in March 2022. Be alert and aware of your surroundings when travelling in El Salvador. Follow the advice of the local authorities.


South America

Yellow Fever Death in Huila - Colombia

The patient with yellow fever is the first ever to die from this infection in the state of Huila. This case confirms the circulation of yellow fever in local mosquitoes. In areas where the yellow fever virus is active, the risk for an unvaccinated traveller may be high. For the vaccinated traveller, the risk is essentially zero. Travellers to areas where there is a risk of exposure to yellow fever can reduce that risk by obtaining a yellow fever vaccination 10 days before travelling. In addition, travellers should take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Travellers are reminded that many other countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination upon arrival for all travellers equal to or greater than 9–12 months of age arriving from a country where there is a risk of yellow fever.

Europe

Fire at Cathedral in Rouen - France

On 11 July, the spire of the Gothic cathedral in Rouen caught fire, leading to an evacuation. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, which was spotted by workers renovating the cathedral. The fire originated in plastic parts at the construction site, leaving the metal spire undamaged. Three workers suffered minor smoke inhalation.

Closure of Debrecen International Airport - Hungary

On 11 July, at around 18:00 hours (local time), a defect was discovered on the runway of Debrecen International Airport. The airport will be temporarily closed to facilitate necessary repairs. The duration of the repair work is anticipated to be at least one week, depending on the weather. Flights may be redirected to Budapest Airport during this time. Plan for travel disruptions to minimize inconvenience. Check with their travel providers for more information.

Tremor Strikes Mine in Silesia - Poland

On 11 July, at around 08:15 hours (local time), a strong tremor about 1,200 meters below ground was reported at the Rydu?towy mine in Upper Silesia. At least 76 miners were rescued from the Polish Mining Group's (PGG) mine, with 17 reporting severe injuries. One person was killed, and another remains missing. Rescue operations remain underway. Related demonstrations are possible in the area. Aftershocks are possible after a major earthquake. Follow the advice of the local authorities. For those planning to travel to the affected area, be prepared for damaged infrastructure and disrupted transportation and communication systems.

Olympic Torch Relay in Paris - France

The torch relay for the Paris Olympics reached the French capital on 14 July. The flame was first seen during the traditional military parade and then began its tour from the Champs-Elysees. Football legend Thierry Henry led the first leg of the relay, which included stops at landmarks such as the parliament and Notre-Dame cathedral. Despite the overall success of the relay, with around five million spectators since 8 May, there remains significant skepticism and criticism from Parisians regarding the Games' disruption. The torch relay is heavily guarded by security forces and will continue its tour in the capital, including events at the Moulin Rouge and Montmartre cathedrals. Travellers are advised to plan their outings in advance and allow adequate time for road travel. To minimize inconvenience, use alternate routes.

Severe Flooding, Casualties due to Heavy Rainfall in Assam - India

As of 10 July, at least 79 people have died due to severe flooding, landslides, and storms across Assam. While water levels in major rivers have shown a receding trend, an alert has been sounded for over 26 districts. Around 48,200 people are residing in relief camps and shelters. Infrastructural damage includes 94 roads, 3 bridges, 26 houses, and 6 embankments. Avoid non-essential travel to the affected areas since there may be power outages and damage to infrastructure, such as roads, transportation, and communication systems. Several roadways in the area are not accessible. Avoid contact with flood water due to the possible risk of contamination. Be cautious and consult local meteorological reports wherever available through local media (TV, radio, and local alerts). Follow any other advice from local authorities.

Zika fever in Maharashtra - India

A total of 12 confirmed cases of Zika fever have been reported in the city of Pune, Maharashtra. Several of the infected patients are pregnant, and there is an increased risk of congenital deformities (microcephaly) in their pregnancies. Travellers are reminded that sporadic infections with the Zika virus still occur. Because the transmission of this virus is far below previous epidemic levels, the risk of exposure to this virus may be low at this time. The risk of exposure for the general traveller in any particular location is difficult to estimate since so many people who may be infected have no symptoms and are not recorded officially. There may be infected people in the community. There is no vaccine or specific treatment for this infection. Travellers can minimize the risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. This virus is the cause of microcephaly (small brain) and other neurological abnormalities in newborn infants when the mother is infected during pregnancy. The World Health Organization advises that pregnant women should not travel to areas with Zika virus outbreaks.

Advisory Issued for Climbing Mt. Fuji - Japan

Starting 10 July, the climbing season on Mount Fuji has begun, and all trails to the peak are now open. Local authorities have issued warnings about heavy rainfall and strong winds, as weather conditions can change rapidly. As of 15 July, four climbers have lost their lives on the Shizuoka side trail. To ensure your safety, contact the respective local authorities to understand the regulations and restrictions. Plan your journey carefully, follow advice from local authorities, and obey local laws to avoid fines and legal action.

Food Contamination in Iraq

A large outbreak of gastrointestinal illness due to consuming contaminated food has been reported in the Diyala Governorate. At least 70 people reported gastrointestinal symptoms after consuming food from a fast food restaurant in the centre of Al-Mansouriya district. There were no deaths. Travellers can reduce the risk of exposure to the many germs that cause intestinal illness (such as cholera, E. coli, salmonella, and many viruses) by following strict food and water precautions to avoid consuming contaminated food and water (especially when sold by street vendors and fast food establishments). These precautions include ensuring that meat is cooked thoroughly, not drinking tap water or ice made from tap water, and trying to avoid swallowing water when swimming. Practising careful personal hygiene with frequent hand washing helps reduce the risk.

Airline Launches Sibu, Singapore Direct Flights - Malaysia, Singapore

Scoot Airlines has launched a new direct route from Singapore to Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia. The inaugural flight took place on 5 June. This service is the first and only direct connection between the two cities. The new route operates three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Scoot, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is expanding its fleet with nine E190-E2 jets to enhance connectivity to non-metropolitan areas like Sibu. The fleet currently serves multiple destinations in Malaysia and Thailand, with more to be announced.

Car Bombing in Mogadishu - Somalia

On 14 July, at around 22:28 hours (local time), a car bombing at the Top Cafe near the Daljirka Dahsoon statue in Mogadishu's Boondhere district resulted in at least 5 fatalities and 20 injuries. The victims were watching a football match inside the cafe The attack is suspected to have been carried out by Al Shabaab. It is strongly advised to refrain from travelling to high-risk regions in Somalia that are frequently targeted by militant bombings and attacks. Many countries advise their citizens against all travel to Somalia due to the dangerous safety and security situation.

Adoption of Draft Law Criminalising Homosexuality - Burkina Faso

On 10 July, Burkina Faso's military junta announced the adoption of the draft of an amended family law that criminalizes homosexuality. Homosexuality and related practices are now prohibited and punishable by law in the country. Following a parliamentary vote and a declaration by interim military leader Ibrahim Traore, the law will come into force. Related protests are possible across the country. Travellers should prepare well and research their destination's local laws and social attitudes towards same-sex relationships and gender expression and identity in the country and area they plan on visiting. Same-sex relations and behaviours may be prohibited and can be punishable. All travellers should avoid open displays of affection. Refrain from engaging in pride marches or other promotional activities, as it can increase your chances of detainment, arrest, or imprisonment under the country's laws. Follow the advice of local authorities.


Fuel Shortage Disrupts Flights - Mali

On 10 July, several flights were delayed or cancelled at Bamako's President Modibo Keita-Senou International Airport due to a lack of aviation fuel. Turkish Airlines, Sky Mali, and Ethiopian Airlines reported disruptions. Mali's aviation authorities have notified airlines of the unavailability of Jet A1 fuel at the airport until at least 15 July. Grounding of flights may persist. Check with your travel agent or the airline to determine if your travel plans are affected. Avoid checking out of your hotels unless you know the status of disruptions. If impacted by cancellations, know your compensation rights. Reschedule your travel plans or use alternate airlines/modes of transport to minimize inconvenience
