TOYS "R" US MAY BE FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY

The toy store could move forward this week, according to CNBC. The company has been exploring options to restructure its $400 million in debt prior to the holiday season. Toys "R" Us currently has three financial owners, and bankruptcy would help simplify its capital structure before the company's debt matures next year. Any move at this point would provide clarity to toymakers gearing up for the holiday rush.

SLACK SECURES $250 MILLION IN FUNDING

Japan's SoftBank and its Vision Fund are leading the investment, which values the workplace messaging app at $5.1 billion, up almost 35% from what it was worth in April 2016. CEO Stuart Butterfield tells the Financial Times the company is growing 100% a year and that he's still planning to take the it public, though an IPO may not come until 2019 at earliest. The funding comes as Slack faces increased competition in the industry. Microsoft introduced its Teams program last year, calling it a "Slack killer," and earlier this month Atlassian debuted Stride, a follow-on to its HipChat app.

ROKU SETS TERMS FOR IPO

The video streaming device maker plans to sell nearly 16 million shares at between $12 and $14 a piece. That would value the company at about $1.3 billion. Roku, founded in 2002, reported a loss of $21 million in the first half of the year and in its IPO filing warned that it may never turn a profit. It had more than 15 million active users as of June 30 and says it streamed over 6.7 billion hours of content. The company has the option to sell an additional 2.3 million shares at the time of the offering. It will trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker ROKU.
