An unprecedented move: President Trump bans US tech companies from providing digital services in Denmark, causing a massive shutdown in the Danish economy [1]. What impact does this have on Germany and how can alternative technologies like Mioty fill the gap?
No more LoRaWAN in Denmark? President Donald Trump has issued an executive order banning US technology companies from providing digital products and services in Denmark. This also affects LPWAN from the USA.
Shut Down in Denmark
Last night, the White House announced that US tech giants such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta and Apple can no longer offer their services in Denmark. This decision is hitting the Danish economy hard, as its infrastructure relies heavily on these companies.
Public administrations are at a standstill, companies are losing access to management tools, digital banking services are unavailable, and citizens can no longer access messaging apps, social networks or streaming platforms. Hospitals are concerned about accessing patient data, mostly stored on American servers.
The fact that critical infrastructure is no longer accessible via LoRaWAN is not mentioned. In Germany, many cities and municipalities have relied on American LoRaWAN. Should Trump's decision also affect Germany, flood sensors could fail, warnings could be missed and floods could destroy homes and cost lives. Not all LPWAN sensors are critical, but the list is long.
With the stroke of a pen, Trump could cripple LoRaWAN networks in Germany, France or Italy. Do we want that? How can we prevent it?
European Mioty instead of American LoRaWAN
LoRaWAN will not disappear from German cities anytime soon. Harald Naumann's new Mioty/LoRaWAN base station is ready as a prototype, and the rollout will begin in 2025. I didn't expect Trump and the White House to become Antennity's marketing department. So far, my target audience has been dissatisfied LoRaWAN customers.
Thanks to Trump's help, all German cities, Deutsche Bahn and sub-metering service providers are now new target customers. Donald, thank you! I hadn't expected so much support for Mioty.
I signed the NDA for the Mioty [2] base station and can confirm that it can be manufactured without American components. Mioty uses the German TS-UNB [2], an open ETSI standard. The public Mioty server is already located in Europe, and I plan to have my own server that anyone can host themselves.
The Mioty UL stack from Germany is available as open source on GitHub. The commercial Mioty stack is also from Germany. The Mioty SoC for my reference designs is the STM32LW3 from France.
Working without American products
I wrote the article with the German Textmaker and checked the readability with Papyrus Autor. Both products are available for Windows, Android and Linux. I did the text optimisation with the Wolf Schneider AI (WSKI) from Germany, which uses ChatGPT. I modelled WSKI with Perplexity from the USA, which has been using Deepseek from China since yesterday. My 3D gaming laptop can execute various LLMs locally under Linux and Framework. My CRM comes from France, my software for offers and invoices from Germany, and the graphics software from Australia.
My wife's new phone is a Google Pixel 8, the tablet is a Lenovo Tab 12 Plus from China. The danger is now Android. My current phone is from Xiaomi, my next one won't be a Google Pixel 9. The tablet won't be a US product either. The office PC from HP will be exchanged for a non-American product. The new laptop with a 3D graphics card is from MSI in Taiwan and can boot Windows and Linux.
Learn Mioty
Take part in the webinar on "Beyond LPWAN" [4]. More than 50% of the presentations are about Mioty. Thomas Halkier from NeoCortec in Denmark presents NeoMesh. Uwe Scherpf presents Mioty applications. Uwe owns a house in Denmark. The webinar offers Q&A via voice and chat. Ask technical questions about NeoMesh and Mioty. Ask Thomas and Uwe what impact Trump's Executive Order has had on companies and personal lives.
Wake up! Don't make yourselves dependent! Imagine your city or company was based in Denmark. Enquiries about the Mioty starter kit with base station, sensor, evaluation kit and server including LPWAN Cookbook[5] from Germany are welcome at harald. naumann (at) antennity. com.

P.S. Thanks again, Donald. Well done. Keep it up, you're saving me a lot of money on marketing.
Remark 02 January 2025:
The article above from 30 January 2025 is fiction inspired by the fictitious article from France at [1]. That Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland is unfortunately not fiction. The punitive tariffs imposed by Trump on Canada, Mexico and China from 01 January 025 are also unfortunately fiction.
Reality in 2019: Adobe customers in Venezuela could no longer log in with their accounts. Until 28 October 2019, customers could still access their stored data and documents from the Creative Cloud. Adobe has blocked all access for customers. The reason for this was Executive Order 13884 issued by US President Donald Trump.
The text above was created without the use of AI. I have written a book for customers and business partners that explains how I have been writing text with and without AI since the 1990s.
