Trump 2.0 means Ghar Wapsi?

Donald Trump has won a thumping second term as the U.S President after a controversial first term. Btw the controversy and federal cases against him are still unresolved, yet Trump is not looking back. ?In his first week at office, Trump has already threatened special tariffs on all countries who do not benefit the U.S (according to him). Anyway, this newsletter concentrates only on Trump’s move to remove birthright citizenship and deport millions of immigrants; which indirectly is going to have a large impact on India.
Indians are well settled all across the world and the United States. In fact,
“Indians have been involved in the invention and marketing management of life-changing companies ranging from Pepsi to Mastercard.?There is a slew of organizations, from IBM, Cognizant, and Adobe to software behemoths like Google and Microsoft, mobile behemoths like Nokia, and content kings like OnlyFans, with CEOs of Indian ancestry who are unquestionably raising the bar.”? Though several have become US citizens now, the same cannot be claimed for their family members and dependents. ?Most people of Indian Origin in the U.S. are descendants of early immigrants, or are in the country on job visas/student visas. ?Hence, this move could lead to a large amount of Ghar Wapsi (‘return home’ in Hindi) for Indians. In addition, outsourcing companies especially in the I.T sector are already facing the brunt. There have been numerous reports of layoffs from such companies.
There also have been news reports of parents who had to return to India as soon as they arrived in the U.S airport, because they hadn’t booked return tickets! ?Now let us compare two sides of the coin. Many in India are shocked by this news. ?Several of their ‘breadwinners’ will have to return home along with an exodus of relatives coming back. Yet there is another half of Indian society that says, “these returning NRIs deserve it. Why did they go to the U.S in the first place, when they could have developed their own nation?”

The list goes on and on. However, the coming months is predicted to have heavy impacts on both nations. The U.S is already facing severe criticism and backlashes for the newly introduced tariffs on trade. This is despite frequent meetings between Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. We as citizens, can not do anything else, other than wait and watch. So what’s your take? Please like the post and comment below. For more such interesting bytes, do subscribe if you haven’t already.
