Tonight, I attended the candlelight vigil for our friend, colleague and #ServantLeader Trinh Huynh, taken from the earth much too soon. There were beautiful tributes which reminded us of the Trinh legacy we must carry on- living our authentic selves, being grateful and serving others. The diversity of the crowd equally illuminating, reminding us of the power of love to overcome all kinds of differences.
#IamTrinh
Inspired by Trinh's legacy, I have never been more certain of my resolve to speak up for what’s right, to call out what’s wrong and to live my values through courage; to be the voice for those who can’t or won’t, and to not accept that we can only aspire to be great, but that we must do the things, say the things, that make us great human beings. Living your values means all the time.
Trinh it’s hard to choose from all my favorite poems which to recite for you. In the end I have chosen this one written by British poet, Stephen Spender. He lived from 1909 to 1995. John F. Kennedy, Jr. read this poem at the dedication of the John F. Kennedy Library on October 20, 1979, the same year you and your family arrived in America from Vietnam.
While Spender was reflecting on soldiers who gave their lives, he also was referring to anyone who selflessly and passionately fights for what they believe in. I hope as you listen closely, you will hear what I hear in Spender’s words... that he’s talking about truly great people like you. Tonight the vivid air is indeed signed by your honor.
Rest in peace Trinh Huynh
