True Team Players Don't Talk Behind Other's Backs, They Do This Instead

True Team Players Don't Talk Behind Other's Backs, They Do This Instead

The people we love working with, the people we love working for, are those who have earned our trust.

True team players build trust.

Yet, it the corporate world it seems as if people are not trying to earn trust, but rather they are trying to find it, buy it, or demand it.

"At the heart of the breakdown of the manager-employee relationship, lies a lack of trust, respect and empathy." - Brigette Hyacinth

None of those methods work. They only way to earn trust is by first giving it and second by showing integrity in words and actions.

Trust needs to be built.

Trust: a thousand ways to earn trust, a million ways to lose it.

Too many times we find out things have been said about us or about our colleagues and it make us feel bad. Basically, when you talk bad about people you are showing that you cannot be trusted.

While those leaders who are weak do things that they think make them strong, by talking about other people they are showing how weak they really are.

Strong leaders build trust. Strong leaders serve, help, and coach. Trust has many benefits including higher levels of well-being and peace. Also, increased levels of trust result in higher levels of productivity.

"Where trust is missing, the productivity is terrible. And with trust, productivity is great..." - Oleg Vishnepolsky

Earning trust is simple when you actually care about other people.

Here are some of the most effective ways to earn trust:

Tell The Truth - The easiest and hardest one. Everyone lies. Try not to. When you stop caring about what you think will make you look good, or what you think they want to hear, you will stop lying as well. Liars always get burned. Stay as far away from the flame as possible by always doing what you say you will do. Do not expand the truth, do not leave the facts. When you act with integrity, everyone can sense and feel it.

"The glue that holds all relationships together--including the relationship between the leader and the led--is trust, and trust is based on integrity." - Brian Tracy

Show Up - Being present goes a long way. Being active means you care, being a willing participant shows you where your heart is. Those who show up always have a chance at success. Plus, once you are known for always be there, your trust account will grow exponentially.

"Without trust you can’t have engaged relationships and without engaged relationships you won’t be a successful leader..." - Jon Gordon

Help Others - The only way to help others is to know what they need and want. This takes empathy. Once you know, take action.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Listen - Stay curious. If you care, you will always be curious. When we want to learn we will listen more than we talk. When we want to learn we will focus on the words and the message and not worry about what we want to say back. Listening is a skill that takes time to master. The most trusted leaders are always the ones who know how to listen.

“The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them.”- Ralph Nichols

Once we build trust, then we have the right to lead others.

“Leadership is an achievement of trust.” - Peter F. Drucker

The best leaders are those who tell their stories with the right objective.

The right objective is to help people.

If the time comes to tell your story, tell it. If the time comes to share your talents, share them. How do you do know when the time comes?

You don’t. You won't.

You just decide.

You decide that NOW is the time.

It is when your commitment to living your true life overpowers your natural desire to stay the same. It is when your ambition shuts out your need for security. It is when you stop caring what other people think about you.

The time to become who you were meant to become is NOW. Take action in the face of fear, and you will find all the courage you need.

You are stronger than you think. You are more powerful than you realize. Keep going.

Good leadership encourages growth and occasionally mistakes are made. Good leaders coach those mistakes and builds upon that learning opportunity. Unfortunately many managers pounce on the bad and employees operate in fear of adverse results. This fuels the concerns mentioned here.

Truth and Honesty are imperative in all businesses and business/company relationships.? Not everyone is alike, and that is best, but we all need to share this sometimes uncommon trait.... honesty and integrity.
