A True Story

_______________________________________________________

Many people know how to put together a reasonable LinkedIn profile. Once you do that though, there is one little used tactic, which can accelerate your networking in a powerful yet simple way.

A True Story - I recommended this simple strategy to a job search client 4 months ago, and it directly resulted in a job offer.

I suggested that she activate her "Open to Work" banner on LinkedIn and then post about being laid-off from her current job.

She got a call from someone who was a 2nd connection on LinkedIn and a few interviews later she had a job offer.

Job search coaches will tell you that networking is extremely important to you finding and securing a good job. This tactic uses LinkedIn to underpin your networking with a small investment in time and potentially a big payoff.

So here`s what to do:

1.?????? Activate your Open to Work banner at the top of your profile via “get started”:

2.?????? Make a post along the lines of the draft post at the end of this article. Include an image with the post … if you don`t it might go unnoticed. The image could be a photograph of you … there is lots of evidence that personal photos get noticed more, and that’s what you want.

3.?????? When your LinkedIn contacts comment, always comment back to them, with a few more words than “thank you”. That way the LinkedIn algorithms will lift the visibility of both of you.

When you make the above mentioned post, it drops into the LinkedIn feed of your 1st connections. If a 1st connection either "likes" or "comments" on your post, then your post is also likely to drop into their 1st connection`s LinkedIn feed (i.e. your 2nd connection), helping to spread the word even more. That’s how the person I mentioned above was noticed by one of her 2nd connections.

Networking is an important ingredient in anyone’s job search strategy and deserves some time and effort. This simple strategy is only one way that LinkedIn can underpin your networking. I recommend you make an effort to learn as much as you can about LinkedIn and how to use it to your advantage.

Example LinkedIn Post 1 (a subtle approach) After … years with XYZ I have been unexpectedly laid off. It has been a great ride and we have achieved a lot. I appreciate the camaraderie and support of the XYZ team, and I hope that as I move towards new horizons, we won`t lose the friendships that we have made. Good luck to all.

Example LinkedIn Post 2 (an assertive approach)

After … years with XYZ I have been unexpectedly laid off. It has been a great ride and we have achieved a lot. I appreciate the camaraderie and support of the XYZ team, and I hope that as I move towards new horizons, we won`t lose the friendships that we have made.

So, I will now be exploring new horizons. If you know of anybody that needs a capable Financial Accountant, then please let them know about me. On the other hand, if you know of anybody I could contact as I build my network, then I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

Very best wishes to all my friends, I appreciate your friendship and support.

That’s all for now? ….? Have a great week.????????????????????????????????????????????? Phillip Powell

Hey Phil! Happy Holidays. That seems like a very sensible strategy.

Great example brother Phillip as I am seeing more and more recruiters are turning to LinkedIn as a valid source for credible and top candidates! Being open and honest on "Looking for Work" along with our qualifications is much better than sifting through a bunch of resumes and cover letters with unknown faces.
