True Story: “Everyone is a Genius”

In my “spare” time I coach women of all ages to “see” themselves, “be” themselves, discover their wholeness and creativity, and not simply accept the prescriptions of a world that doesn’t know them. Today I share a very powerful piece written by a young woman I have coached. She has asked me to share this message and has asked me to share that I have been her coach.

Please share this with anyone who you think might benefit from reading this moving and inspiring message.

Thank you, Cranla

"Everyone is a Genius" by Jessica McGann

I felt stupid for most of my life.

I was the loud ADD theatre kid with learning difficulties. I was bullied consistently through elementary school and large parts of high school to a point in which I almost dropped out!

I've had the worst kinds of teachers. Some that have actually told me I'm stupid...to my face. All because I struggled with the math and the science and the spelling...

(Jessie McCantSpell was one of my high school nicknames?.)

I was told In high school I should take all APPLIED classes because ACADEMIC classes would be too much for me....

I said F*** that!

I wanted to qualify to attend university

AND I DID- with early acceptance into my first choice university

Don't let ANYONE tell you what you CAN and CANNOT do

a) no one (not even your family) knows you like you do. They don't know your passions, hopes fears...what lights up your soul and what shuts you down to the extent that you do.

b) If it excites you GO FOR IT. There is a place for you in this world to live out your wildest dream, no matter how crazy it might feel.

I’m proud that I didn't let other people decide for me what I am capable of...I didn't let anyone tell me what wasn't possible for me... and you know why?

BECAUSE I’M EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT!?

I cant do calculus to save my life

...but I CAN travel the world by myself and navigate tricky life situations with people who speak a completely different language than me.

I can’t spell or use proper grammar without the assistance of word correct

...but I CAN stand in front of hundreds of people and share difficult, traumatic experiences of my life in hopes that at least one person feels less alone in this world.

I can't sit in a history lecture for hours and memorize every single fact and date

...but I CAN hold a powerful and safe space for people to feel heard and validated in their emotions. A space where people can feel empowered and excited for their life!

I'm not stupid.

I'm EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT!

If you are feeling lost, stuck, and unmotivated in your life right now...please don't give up. Keep searching and questioning and digging and when you find that thing that lights your soul on fire I hope you dive right in....I promise you, there is a place for you in this world to live out your WILDEST dreams.

Wow! What a story? I must confess that I am more than motivated with this story. A story worth reading and sharing at the same time.

This is a great article and really highlights how valuing ourselves is really hard sometimes when we don't seem to "measure up". Thanks for the post!
