The true stars behind our restaurants

The Barcelo Hotel Group understands how culinary tourism contributes to the economic and social development of destinations and its ability to build ties with their culture and identity. As a company, we are firmly committed to contributing to regenerative tourism by supporting local talent and culinary experiences based on quality, local ingredients.?

Since 2004, the World Association of Chefs Societies has celebrated International Chefs Day every October as a tribute to the role of chefs worldwide. In light of this special day, we would like to highlight the importance of these individuals for the company as they help take the Barceló Hotel Group’s culinary concept to the highest level.

This year, our Behind the Stars campaign showcases the work and passion of the people who form part of our teams at Royal Hideaway Hotels & Resorts.

Since 2023, we have been the Spanish hotel chain whose restaurants have the most MICHELIN Stars, with a total of seven—including a Green MICHELIN Star—and nine Repsol Suns. These recognitions would not have been possible without the efforts and expertise of our teams.

We currently have some of the most renowned chefs in the world. Talented people like Juan Carlos and Jonathan Padrón, Adrián Bosch, Borja Marrero, Fernando Arjona, Eduardo Salanova, and many others allow us to serve clients memorable dining experiences and help position us as benchmarks for culinary excellence in tourism.

As part of our commitment to experiential innovation in the culinary world, we actively participate in initiatives that promote knowledge of local cuisine in other places. We also promote top, distinguished, sustainable and high-quality dining projects in collaboration with renowned local, national and international chefs.

Examples include Culinary Sessions, an annual event that brings together some of the best people behind haute cuisine, and the Inspirational Chef Program hosted by Royal Hideaway Corales Resort, in which famous chefs dive into Tenerife’s landscapes to learn about local ingredients and farmers and create unique culinary experiences alongside the resort’s resident chefs.

These are just two examples of our solid track record along this journey, which we want to continue pursuing. We are thankful for all the chefs who have helped us reach this point and those who, at some point in their lives, have sparked our love for cuisine.

I've visited several Barceló hotels for all-inclusive holidays, primarily because of the exceptional, high-quality food—a major factor in choosing our holiday destinations. However, in March 2023, my partner and I chose Barceló Fuerteventura Castillo, connected to Mar Hotel, for a mini-honeymoon following our wedding. Unfortunately, we encountered a disappointing situation at the restaurant. Not having booked a lunch slot, we were denied entry, and the exchange with the staff was uncomfortable and left us feeling unwelcome. I understand the importance of planning to provide a great service and reduce waste, but from a guest’s perspective, an all-inclusive holiday should be about relaxation, not scheduling every meal in advance. Needing to book each meal and stick to strict times added stress instead of allowing us to fully unwind. It would be wonderful if there were more flexibility to enhance the relaxation and enjoyment your hotels are so well known for. Thank you for considering this feedback!
