True Repentance
My son Dante is a swimmer, last year I asked him to teach me how to swim, and every time he will demonstrate to me, I would try to imitate him using powerful strokes but I could not move forward, and he will say to me “Daddy relax if you want to move forward smoothly”, and I could not do it because I thought if I relax I will sink, but he will say “ Daddy you won’t sink, just relax”, this is a person that knows how to swim. Every principle of the world is this way. When a basketball player in the batter’s box has too much strength, the commentator says “he is forcing it, there is much strength in him that is why it is not working.” This is also true in the world of spiritual life, when people first enter the spiritual world, they zealously try by their efforts seeking to establish their own righteousness as a result they can’t submit to the righteousness of Jesus Christ, Paul speaks about such people in Romans 10:1-4. If we read the Bible closely, we see that the Word of God is so different from our thoughts. Therefore, the spiritual life to believe in Jesus is composed of two parts, and they are “repentance,” and “faith.” One must first repent; then he must have faith. But what does it mean to repent? What should one repent from? To repent correctly, one must precisely know that the thoughts that have arisen in one’s own self are not yours, but are thoughts put there by Satan. You must precisely know that if you live following these thoughts you will be destroyed. In Acts 5, Ananias and Sapphira sold their land, but hid a portion of the money. Then they brought forth the remaining money to the apostles, telling them that they had brought everything. Right then in Peter 5:3 Peter said, “Ananias, how is your heart filled with Satan that you are deceiving the Holy Spirit and hid a portion of the money from the land?” He was saying that hiding the money from the land sale was not Ananias’ heart, but it was the heart that Satan had filled him with. Satan also said to Ananias and Sapphira, “Hide the money from the sale of the land. Just don’t tell anyone that you have hidden a part of it. It will be good to use it later when you run into hard times.” In this manner, Satan puts thoughts into us. If we live following the thoughts Satan gives us, we would have no choice but to ultimately be destroyed and cursed. However, when people repent, most of them say, “God, I stole something. I committed adultery. I lied. Forgive me.” But this is not repenting. Lying, stealing, adultery, murder; these are all results or symptoms of sin, which Satan put on Adam and Eve and entered all of us, we are born with that seed of sin. We must recognize the source by seeing the result. If you stole, you should recognize, “Ah, Satan had put in me the heart to steal!” If you committed adultery, you should recognize, “Satan put a lustful heart in me!” You must look at the results to recognize the source, in order for you to resolve the source. If you catch malaria, you will have a fever. Then you should not only lower the fever, but find the source of the fever and then treat that illness. The source must be taken care of. Taking care of only the symptoms will not suffice. What did David say upon committing adultery with Uriah’s wife in Psalm 51:5? He said, “I was sharpen in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me.” He said, “There is always sin in me. My insides are dirty.“ It is not that you should try not to steal, not to commit adultery, or not to lie. Satan has always put into us those evil hearts., Romans 7:17 confirms this “As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me”, since it is not you who do it, battle of sin cannot be resolved by you , because on your own you cannot win against the Satan, therefore your spiritual life should be in the state of Galatians 2:20- “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me: and that life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me”, it is only Jesus Christ that wins the battle on your behalf. True Repentance is saying “God I am a seed of sin, so that is why evil thoughts arise inside me without end. Although I have not committed sin outwardly, in my heart, I endlessly committed adultery, murder, lying etc. How can I who am this way, ever be good? Therefore I deny myself. Loving Lord now you take charge of my life , you rule over me now” Friends when you throw away everything that you are trying to do and leave your life and spirit to the Lord, from that point on, the Lord lives and works inside of you. It is impossible to wash away your sins, but when you leave it to the Lord it is easy. It is difficult to quit smoking, drinking, drugs etc., but it is easy when the Lord does it for you. Friends giving up on what you do and leaving it up to Jesus Christ is true repentance and true spiritual life.

9 年Bab' Nkomo, thank you! I resonate with your revelation on repentance. May we hold our peace even as The Lord fights all evil in our lives in the name of Jesus. It is written: 14Blessed are they that do his commandments/wash their robes daily(in my understanding - shy away from sin), that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. 16I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. 17And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.(In my understanding, because it is GOD who sets us free from sin). We are a circumcision that worships GOD in Spirit but we are weak in flesh, that is why ONLY GOD and not "we" can deliver us from sin. May we continue seeking to please GOD as it is written: 2 Samuel 22:21- The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. Unwele olude kuwe, Bab' Nkomo!

9 年Thank you oriel indeed David acknowledged that he was born in sin, not the symptom of sin, when we receive forgiveness of sin , all symptoms of sin like adultery, lying etc eventually disappear. Thank you Oriel.

9 年Hi Victor, great article indeed, thank you. I totally agree with you but somewhere along the line one should take responsibility for one's actions. David's acknowledged his sin, transgressions and iniquity and asked for forgiveness. I recently read an excellent book on Repentance by Natasha Grbch of Ariel Gate Ministries. Phone: +27 10 595 0282. very good workbook. Blessings
