The true measure of a person is how we treat other people.

What do you measure the people around you by? Even more to the point how do you believe they measure you?

We live in a society driven by a currency of likes, shares, clothes, cars, watches and quite simply, “fabricated popularity”

Just because you have a lot of something does not mean you have a lot of what is important.

Just because you are high up in a business does not mean that you are a good person. A well-educated manager doesn’t always equate to being a kind and thoughtful leader.

It is a fact though, as humans, that we have a tendency to treat people differently based on certain parameters. 

• How much money someone is worth
• Their job title
• Their place in society
• The number of followers they have
• The car they drive
• The clothes they wear
• What house they live in
• What University they went to
• What skills they have

How much of this really matters? NONE!!

Think about this within your career. Have you ever had a great idea and felt like your boss has trampled all over it and walks away from the conversation sounding like it was their idea.

I once had a chat with my manager where I aired what I thought was a great process change to help the whole team. He looked at me and said “yes it’s a good idea it’s something that I am already putting in place”

Now part of my thought “great we are thinking the same things here” but later I realised how poor this level of management really was. 

It may well be true that he had exactly the same idea and that he really did plan to implement it anyway but how did telling me that benefit anyone other than massaging his own ego. The reason he told me that was to show that he had authority and that there was nothing that I was going to come up with that he hadn’t already thought of.

A great leader would have paused and listened to that idea, knowing the benefit that I would gain from him saying “that is a great idea, let's look at implementing it”.

I would have walked out of their feeling empowered, trusted and appreciated. 

The integrity that comes with great leadership is priceless. 

A true leader is excited to watch the growth of their employees, rejoicing in their successes and feels pride in their recognition. 

The true measure of a person is how we treat other people irrespective of anything other than it being the right thing to do.
