Valentine’s Day is widely celebrated as a day of love and connection. It is a moment to cherish those we hold dear, expressing affection through words and gestures. But beyond the romanticized ideals, Valentine’s Day can serve as a powerful reminder of an essential truth: love must begin from within.
We are all looking for LOVE, the question do we love ourselves? do we cherish our experience in this world, most likely not, as we are looking into the outer world to be loved, we NEED to change our perspective, and it is never too late.
How do we create the Foundation of Self-Love?
Mindfulness teaches us to be fully present with ourselves, observing our thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgment. When we practice mindfulness, we cultivate self-awareness and learn to respond to our inner world with kindness. In Nonviolent Communication (NVC), we emphasize the importance of meeting our needs with understanding and care. When we apply this to ourselves, we realize that how we speak to ourselves directly impacts our well-being.
Self-love is not as we were told, it is not about arrogance or selfishness; it is about acknowledging our worth and treating ourselves with the same compassion we offer to others. Before we can truly love and connect with those around us, we must nurture a loving and accepting relationship with ourselves.
The Power of Words: Speaking to Ourselves with Compassion
Words are powerful—they shape our reality and influence our emotions. Just as we are mindful of how we communicate with others, we must also be mindful of how we talk to ourselves. Do we speak with encouragement and kindness, or do we criticize and judge ourselves harshly?

Practising self-compassion means replacing self-judgment with understanding. Instead of saying, “I’m not good enough,” we can shift to, “I am doing my best, and that is enough.” This simple change in inner dialogue can create profound shifts in how we feel and interact with the world.
The Inner World Shapes the Outer World
The way we treat ourselves sets the foundation for how we relate to others. We naturally extend these qualities outward if we cultivate love, patience, and acceptance within. By embracing self-love and mindful self-talk, we create a ripple effect that fosters more compassionate connections with the people around us.
On this Valentine’s Day, let’s go beyond external expressions of love and turn inward. Let’s take a moment to appreciate ourselves, speak kindly to our hearts, and recognize that the deepest love we can experience is the love we cultivate from within. The journey toward a more loving world begins with how we love ourselves.
