A True Inspirational Story of a Cancer Survivor and Thriver
We will always remember the phone call we received telling us that our granddaughter, who had just turned 16, had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.?It seemed impossible that this could happen to her at such a young age, but it was indeed true.?
My husband and I hurriedly packed our bags and flew to Kentucky to support Lauren and the family.?Once, we got there, we learned that Lauren was going to be honored over the upcoming weekend in a huge show of support during when her high school football team was playing a rival school.?The local news organizations had publicized the event and several local hair salons had said they would cut Lauren’s hair as well as that of anyone else in order to help make wigs for cancer patients.?As it turned out, dozens of people came out of the football stands and went down to the field to have their heads shaved so their hair could be used for the wigs.?At halftime, most of the players, even from the opposing team, went over to donate their hair.?It was an unforgettable, emotionally charged evening!
What a great inspirational story for the new year!?The same hospital that treated Lauren and saved her life is where she works as a nurse today.?
With that, I encourage you to read Lauren’s story as told by the University of Kentucky.
