True Happiness

True Happiness

While I was changing bed sheets today, a packet of my grandmother’s tika (also called Bindi) tumbled out.?

It brought back a wave of grief – my grandfather, whom I loved dearly, had passed away just a few months ago. This tika sparked a memory. My grandfather, a soul of immense kindness, always believed forgiveness was the key to happiness.?

He took his last breath in my arms, the last words unspoken. All that I could feel was he was in pain and that he was hopeful.

Forgiveness: He never spoke ill of anyone, offering constructive criticism instead. He shared a lot of stories, teaching me how to be a good person and that true happiness lies in letting go.?

Whenever I'm hurt or if someone has made my life pathetic, I ask myself a series of questions: Would I find joy in his/her suffering, even if they wronged me? Would their downfall bring me peace??

After my grandfather’s passing, forgiveness has become even more like a ritual.

Today, a simple tika reminded me of his immense wisdom and simplicity. He lived a life of integrity and discipline. Love you, Hajur Baa.

We all have stories, struggles, and people who frustrate us. But before holding onto anger, let’s try asking ourselves these questions.?

Would I find joy in their suffering, even if they wronged me? Would their downfall bring me peace?

Why can’t forgiveness be the path to peace??

Choice is ours but I’d still say - let’s give it a try because there's nothing to lose.

Cheers!
