The skin is far more than just a protective shell for our body! It is the body’s largest organ with many different yet important functions. It has a surface area of some 2m2 and weighs around 4lbs. Its appearance says a lot about our health, and everybody wants a radiant complexion that indicates vitality, beauty and fitness. Since skin health is a reflection of our overall health, having a skin care routine is extremely important.
Regardless of what skin type you have – dry, greasy, large-pored, flaky or sensitive – one thing is important in skincare: The skin needs sufficient water to maintain its natural elasticity. If the skin loses its natural tonicity, it looks dull and small wrinkles will form faster. Drinking enough water (at least 65 ounces a day) is therefore rule number one for beautiful skin.
Besides beauty care on the outside from creams and the like, diet is also important. Quite literally: True beauty comes from the inside! Some foods contain substances that keep the skin supple. They also increase its vitality and its capacity to ward off infection. Here are just some examples of foods that keep your skin looking young and fresh.
Green Power
Green vegetables – the darker the better – keep your skin and body healthy. Antioxidants found in vegetables such as broccoli, kale and spinach, for example, ward off damaging environmental influences that can have a destructive effect on the skin’s appearance.

Valuable fish oils
Sardines, tuna and mackerel, to name some examples, are good sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. They lower the skin’s tendency to inflammation, lend it elasticity and improve blood flow and oxygen supply, and by so doing impart clear, natural radiance.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are rich in vitamins A, C and E, which are regarded as beneficial for the complexion – one reason why these vitamins are frequently added to skin creams. They maintain the skin’s elasticity, which reduces the formation of wrinkles. Moreover, thanks to the lycopene they contain, they combat the free radicals that arise from environmental stress, UVs and metabolic processes.
Olive oil
Olive oil is not only beneficial for health, it also gives you a good complexion as it is rich in vitamin E. And olive oil works not only from the inside: It can also be used externally as an effective, low-cost skincare product. The composition of its fatty acids is similar to that of the subcutaneous fatty tissue, and so regular care with olive oil will first and foremost impart new elasticity to the skin.
