True Real Rational AI: Disrupting Irrationality, Human and Machine
Humans are hardly rational animals, for irrationality has defined much of human life, history, societies and cultures.
Since human beings are uniquely irrational creatures, the human intelligence imitation, replication or simulation in software/hardware systems is making AI an existential risk
We advance an alternative solution, as a true, real and rational AI (TRRAI), which is an intelligent, real-world, human-complete technology, acting as a powerful rational complement to the human mind.
Irrationality is mentality, cognition, feeling, thinking, reasoning, deciding, talking, acting, business, practice or technology without rationality, without grounding to reality and truth, reasons and causes, meanings and goals.
From politics and economics, science and technology, sex and music to religion and war, irrationality makes up the greater part of human life and history.
Nowadays, due to the explosion of digital technologies, especially the big tech human-mimicking artificial intelligence products and services, as large language models chatbots, we all experience an explosion of irrationality and unreason.
Regardless of the naturality of human irrationality, its technological disruption is the matter of life or death for the digitalized humanity, if to survive and prosper.
True Rational and Real AI (TRRAI) is designed as the rational (causal, real, true, reasonable, wise, logical, coherent, knowledgeable, intelligent, meaningful, factual) machine complement to natural human irrationality.
It is conceived to disrupt the most irrational inventions in human history of ideas, today's AI as a human-like and human-level artificial intelligence, mimicking, replication or simulating human intelligence in computing machinery.
TRRAI refers to systems, networks, platforms or digital technologies that have machine rationality displaying causal knowing and learning, deep reasoning and intelligent behavior by interpreting, understanding and interacting with the world in the most rational and effective ways.
TRRAI-based systems can be purely software-based, acting in the virtual world (e.g., LLMs, chatbots, voice assistants, image analysis software, search engines, speech and face recognition systems) or TRRAI can be embedded in the physical world as hardware devices (e.g., chips or processors, advanced rational robots, autonomous transportation, drones, or Internet of Things applications).

Most human inventions and innovations, cultural artifacts and creations, as society and economics, politics and governments, science and technology, logic and actions, are deeply irrational (unreasonable, illogical, groundless and baseless, unfounded and unjustifiable, incoherent and inconsistent, automatic and reactive).
Humans are naturally irrational creatures ("rational animals"), with the irrational mind and behavior, guided by instincts and intuition, biases and prejudices, the unconscious or subconscious, emotions and feelings, desires and willing, society's ideas and beliefs.
All human logic, formal or informal, reason or reasoning, deductive inferences and non-deductive (inductive, abductive, analogical) arguments, with all the innumerable forms and rules, fallacies and errors, formal and informal, is essentially irrational.
It is closely associated with human mental and practical activities, philosophy, religion, science, engineering, language, mathematics, art, or life, politics, government, leisure, entertainment, work, manufacturing, recreation, or warfare.
All the human history and the humanity studies, from history and psychology to behavioral economics, prove that humans aren't rational in general or in detail.
How Important to be Real or Rational
If your AI systems are not grounded in rationality and reality, real or virtual, with embedded/programmed/encoded rational/scientific world models, it is irrational or meaningless, as today's large language models (LLMs) like Microsoft/OpenAI's GPT-4, Google's Gemini or Meta's LLaMA models.
AI must be taught to learn all major truths about the world, enabling machine rationality, its intelligence, learning, inference, planning, self-knowledge, understanding, and interaction.
The World Model Machine (the World Modeling and Reality Simulating Causality Engines) as a general-purpose, autonomous and interactive AI model postulates “beneficial [artificial general intelligence]” capable of understanding the universe.
Truly intelligent systems (Real AI) are deeply grounded in the world, physical and virtual. Otherwise, they are fake and false or irrational as the human brain could be.
The existential concerns expressed by a few rational minds have all the chances to come out from the human-mimicking, fake AI technology.

The big tech AI is the biggest fraud of the modern industry, with its blatant false commercial advertising and exploiting the fact of irrationality, together with daydreaming or mind-wondering, to be the human brain's default state.
So why do big tech brands make fraudulent “AI” promises at the scale of Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, or Tesla?
Because it’s HUGELY profitable to mislead consumers and shareholders.
True Rationality, False Reason and Irrationality
We have two opposite classes/kinds/types/concepts/models of AI:

What is a True, Real, Rational AI System?
If True and Real AI is about deep understanding of the world, general, human-like intelligence in a machine, traded as strong AI or artificial general intelligence, the false AI is about statistical learning/ML/DL research directed at specific tasks, from chess playing to image recognition.
The BigTech non-AI is about AML, Automated Machine Learning and Deeply Layered Neural Networks.
“Deep learning” systems are numerical neural networks running numerical functional models, numbers, weights, vectors, matrices, and predictive scores, with no meanings, and any intellectual processes or understanding.
To become really Deep AI, “Deep learning” systems are in need to include deep causal understanding and symbolic reasoning, and not just as iterative formal logical manipulation of symbolic information at the highest computing speed.
Broadly, Deep AI embraces understanding and interacting the world by means of abstractions and conception, symbols and models, cognition, learning and thinking, intelligent decision and acting.
Or technically, ‘the word embeddings produced by word2vec or similar mechanisms’ should be replaced by
“the world embeddings produced by world2vec and similar mechanisms”.
And what is most critical, real AI is NOT about some mathematical and statistical, logical or cognitive models of human intelligence, based on the cybernetic theory that the AI of the computer’s “brain” parallels the mechanism of human intellect.
True AI is not about automated pattern/object/image/speech/face recognition, automated NL processing or automated decision making or automated predictions.
Real AI is about general models of the world being represented by interacting machine, while underpinning mathematical and statistical, logical or cognitive models of intelligent processes, based on the assumptions that the AI of the computer’s “brain” is not after imitating the mechanism of human intellect.
Combining ML and AI, Real Deep AI is about autonomous and intelligent pattern/object/image/speech/face recognition, NL understanding, autonomous and intelligent decision making or autonomous and intelligent predictions.
Such an integrated approach is advanced by the INDEPENDENT HIGH-LEVEL EXPERT GROUP ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SET UP BY THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION. It is looking for “a learning rational system as a rational system that, after taking an action, evaluates the new state of the environment (through perception) to determine how successful its action was, and then adapts its reasoning rules and decision making methods”.
And AI is broadly defined as including “machine learning (of which deep learning and reinforcement learning are specific examples), machine reasoning (which includes planning, scheduling, knowledge representation and reasoning, search, and optimization), and robotics (which includes control, perception, sensors and actuators, as well as the integration of all other techniques into cyber-physical systems).”

Both machine learning and reasoning include many other techniques, and robotics includes techniques that are outside AI.
In all, we have three broad definitions of AI of increasing generality and rationality:
