Troubleshooting By Swapping

Troubleshooting By Swapping

Its common practice when troubleshooting to swap a component you suspect is the culprit. as for legality its not wrong has far as there's proper documentation so you don't complicate matters.

But the question is what do engineers prefer? To swap or to change outrightly. Now you find out that a lot of people use the word swap and change intermittently. but they are two different things entirely. To swap means to take the same component from a complete identical system. For example if you have two starter systems, you can take a component from System A to put on System B. While to change means to replace with a known serviceable component taken from your technical store.

Some people prefer to replace outrightly while others prefer to swap in other to confirm their suspicions. those who prefer to replace do so probably because they have a wealth of experience on that particular machine. When it comes to swapping some guys are of the opinion that its better to be cocksure about about the work that its been done. Also, when troubleshooting of a particular snag has gone on for a while and everything looks scattered, it would probably be nice to swap components around to confirm you are on the right track.

As for me i would just tell you to ensure that whatsoever you do while troubleshooting is first completely knowledge based. Use a troubleshooting manual or fault isolation manual. You could lean on your past experiences or those of your colleagues,
