As online business owners, we are often reminded that there is always a straight path toward entrepreneurial success. We are told there are certain ways to do business and we love looking at roadmaps, templates, and strategies that are “battle-tested.”?
But how often do we hear people making it to the top while breaking the typical business rules we’ve come to know? Yes, they followed the same business fundamentals, but they made that journey theirs. They owned it and made it work. I still think entrepreneurship is a highly individual journey and the story of one successful business owner will look different than another successful business owner.
What Lauren and I will share with you in this week’s episode:
Top Takeaways from Em:
Allow money to make you more YOURSELF
There are a TON of things that we could always improve in our lives and business… Especially if we have the resources to make them happen. But do you often ask yourself to invest more into what makes you and your business more YOURSELF?
I still think businesses that are built from passion are the fun ones to see grow. When we love what we’re offering to people, it shows in the results they’re getting. So one way to see more of this magic happen is for us to invest in what we love about ourselves and our business. This way… We can create a more lasting impact that truly matters to our personal values.
Doing less can actually make you MORE
The key idea to take away from here is ALIGNMENT. When you’re doing more of the things that don’t align with who you are and what values you stand for… it’ll block you from making more. You might not be aware of it, but doing more of what doesn’t feel right for you actually creates these energy blocks that stop wealth from flowing.
When you aren’t hitting an income milestone in your business… It might be time for you to step back and do some inner work. Identify which parts of the work you do are in alignment with who you are… AND THEN focus on those. You’ll find yourself doing less but still making more.

Think long term in your business
Do you wonder how investors choose which startups they want to invest their money in? Aside from the fundamentals… they’re looking at the long-term runway of the business. This is an interesting point of view because we often look at our businesses in the now. What profit am I making now? What current problems do I need to solve? How will we sustain growth with the resources we have now?
What if we shift our thinking of growth as something that happens over time? What if we look at the potential of our business to grow over the years? This will provide you with clarity on what next steps are important now… And what next steps take time to see results from but are still worth pursuing.
Fire the wrong people faster
Firing the wrong people faster will be super beneficial not just for you but for your entire team… I know this will ruffle a few feathers but even the most loyal team members have expiration dates. There will come a day when their objectives no longer align with yours and it’s only right for you and the team to let them go.
Think of them as apples in your basket going bad over time. You wouldn’t want those bad apples to affect the good ones. It’ll be difficult at first especially if you’re letting go of someone who’s been on the team for so long… But you’ll find that loyalty doesn’t always equal constant alignment.
Find ways to give back
One thing I really love about Lauren is her drive to find ways to give back. This is something that we often overlook when we’re swarmed with all the things we need to do for our business… But find ways to give back to the community and you’ll see yourself working more from the heart.
When you haven’t had the chance to do something like this… You’ll think “Oh, I don’t really have the time to do this anymore” but give it a shot and you’ll discover how the positive energy you get from giving back will show up when in your business.
