"The trouble with being punctual for a business meeting is that nobody’s there to appreciate it."
This quip crossed my mind as I arrived somewhat late at the LANDMARK HOTEL LONDON LIMITED for the Markets Group Annual Private Wealth UK Autumn Forum. But as I took in the venue's stunning architecture and elegant design, I knew this event was going to be special.
A High Energy Experience
The Landmark London, with its luxurious ambiance, sophisticated interiors, and impeccable service, was the perfect setting for this gathering of industry movers and shakers. The grand, high-ceilinged rooms, adorned with intricate detailing and timeless décor, exuded a sense of class and refinement. From the moment I stepped through the doors, it was clear that the organizers had chosen an exceptional venue to host this prestigious event.
Top-Tier Organization
One of the standout aspects of the forum was the quality of its organization. Everything ran smoothly, from registration to the closing remarks. Jane Popova and her team had clearly put a lot of thought into the event structure, ensuring that each session flowed seamlessly into the next. Their efforts allowed attendees like myself to focus on the content and connections, rather than logistics.
Networking Opportunities
The networking opportunities at the forum were unparalleled. Over the course of the day, I had the pleasure of meeting and exchanging ideas with several influential figures in the private wealth sector those who I had the pleasure to meet in the past and also had the opportunity to get acquainted with new introductions. These interactions were more than just casual exchanges; they were opportunities to forge new partnerships and gain insights from peers who are navigating the same industry challenges.
Panel Discussion on Alternatives
A highlight of the forum for me was the Panel Discussion on Alternatives. The session brought together some of the brightest minds in the industry to explore the future of alternative investments. The discussion was both enlightening and engaging, covering a range of topics from real estate and private equity to hedge funds and commodities.
What struck me most was the panelists' depth of knowledge and their willingness to share practical insights.
Saftar Sarwar was as gentelmany as always and it was riveting to hear from him particularly as his Binary Capital continues to maintain top position in the table of succesful funds. Simon Ibbitson surely has flair and pizzaz! Andrew Haywood of Park Square Capital and Colin Greene of UBP - Union Bancaire Privée all presented well, Sarah Miller, CFA was a class act in moderating this panel, and the session seemed to be over too quickly.
Afternoon sessions included a Panel Discussion on Real Estate as an investment in a higher rate environment and ably moderated by Stephen Isaacs and it was obvious he was well prepared.
Fernando Braghin was excellent in explaining the intricacies of the particular sector his Kawa Capital Management fund operates in. Per Wimmer had his facts and figures and connected well with the crowd.
Final Thoughts
Reflecting on the day, punctuality isn't only about being early but rather about being present and fully engaged.
The Annual Private Wealth UK Autumn Forum was an energizing experience, offering both rich content and invaluable connections. Time commitments are a commodity that cannot be hedged and one needs to be selective as to which conferences to attend. This years event wasn't only about learning and networking, but about being part of a community that is driving the industry forward.
