TROPICAL BAR AND RESTAURANT INSPIRATIONS

LEO’S OYSTER BAR – SAN FRANCISCO

An eclectic bar for an eclectic city. Leo’s Oyster Bar is the perfect choice if you want to step in a tropical designer dream: from the wallpaper’s palm leaf motif and shell-shaped sconces to the rose-colored glass accessories, it’s no wonder that this bar won the title of Best Designer New Restaurant from Bon Appetit. The luxurious setting – created by Ken Fulk alum Jon de la Cruz – displays a “1950’s Beverly Hills meets Manhattan club” vibe and I couldn’t agree more!

TIGER MAMA – BOSTON

The are no banana leaf motifs in this restaurant (the palm trees are real!) but the tropical feeling pervades every corner: Southeast Asian heaven – with a related menu and Tiki cocktails – that will elevate your dining experience to the next level. The Tiger Mama’s chef Tiffani Faison will conceive a gastronomic trip to a faraway land while the original décor will represent a saving oasis from the city’s concrete. One of my favorite!

INDOCHINE – NYC

This Manhattan restaurant opened in 1984 with a Martinique banana leaf motif all over the walls and a Vietnamese/Cambodian cuisine to recreate a matching experience: it was discovered by the it-crowd and it has been cool and popular ever since (I think it’s because of the design, of course!). Indochine’s vibrant colors and natural-like elements have made it the perfect Instagram spot for decades, even before social network!

Surrounded by 12 acres of vefìgetables, tropical flowers and Beverly Hill’s signature elements – palm trees – the famous Pink Palace present a little corner of glamourous heaven from the city’s life. The iconic Fountain Coffee Room, with its curved bar and matching stools that scream at us “50s” from every nook and corner. Let yourself be fascinated by the stylish setting that has been attracting people’s attention ever since its opening in 1949. A true Hollywood hot spot!

MOTHER OF PEARL – NYC

I am still in New York City to discuss another location that shouts its elegant tropical vibe to the rooftop. It’s the Mother of Pearl in Manhattan. Not even the glasses are exonerated from the tiki influence with their metallic shell-shaped form. The post-modern Polynesian décor is a mix of exotic and extravagant pieces – from the shark glasses to the striking chandelier – that highlights the bar’s retro vibrations.
