It’s been a busy end of the year in the reusable identity space! Three new jurisdictions have gone live with mobile driver’s licenses: West Virginia, New Mexico and Puerto Rico. Switzerland has announced the technical framework for their national digital ID ecosystem. And LexisNexis has acquired IDverse.
West Virginia residents can now access their driver’s licenses and certain other state-issued forms of identification through their mobile phones. On Tuesday, the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced the launch of its new mobile ID (mID) program.

"Anyone who has a New Mexico ID or driver's license can go into their Apple or Google Wallet on their smartphone, and they can add their mobile driver's license as a new form of identification," said Stephanie Schardin Clarke, secretary of the Taxation and Revenue Department.?

Apple Wallet’s digital driver’s license and state ID support has expanded to ten jurisdictions in the United States with the recent additions of New Mexico and Puerto Rico. The feature is now available in?Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, New Mexico, Ohio, and Puerto Rico. The expansion marks significant progress since Arizona became the first state to launch the program in March 2022.

Switzerland has announced key technical decisions for its national electronic identity (E-ID) system and Federal Electronic Wallet initiative, establishing the foundation for a decentralized digital identity infrastructure. The announcement, which builds on the?successful pilot program?launched earlier this year, was made during a public Participation Meeting that outlined the technical standards and implementation timeline.

LexisNexis??Risk Solutions, part of RELX, has entered into an agreement to acquire IDVerse?, a provider of AI-powered automated document authentication and?fraud?detection solutions. IDVerse will become part of LexisNexis Risk Solutions Business Services.
