Trinity Receives Award from Union Pacific
Union Pacific recently awarded our TrinityRail facility in Sabinas, Mexico with the ‘UP Way’ award, highlighting our lean principles. Lean manufacturing focuses on minimizing waste while simultaneously maximizing productivity.
While on a visit to the facility, Union Pacific was impressed by the best practices in place to promote continuous improvement, safety, quality, and 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) initiatives.
“Providing an excellent Customer Experience is a key deliverable of Trinity’s three-year strategy,” said Vik Minhas, Vice President of Continuous Improvement and Strategy. “Awards like this inspire us to continue to do our best in exceeding customer expectations, day-in and day-out.”
Continuous Improvement is about making small improvements on a consistent basis. It is a simple purpose, but one that is not always easy to achieve because it requires discipline.
“What Sabinas has been able to accomplish is a result of daily disciplines and habits,” added Minhas. “The team has set a great example of what we can accomplish if we continue to make small improvements every single day in a consistent manner.”
To ensure the facility is always striving to improve, the Sabinas team works together to cascade established goals and objectives throughout the facility. Areas of focus include safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people. Additionally, the Lean Leaders training program provides employees the knowledge needed to solve complex problems, and spearhead lean principles on the manufacturing floor.
“We appreciate the effort, dedication, and discipline our employees follow every day to continuously improve, and deliver quality railcars for our customers,” said Agustin Alegria, Senior Director of Operations in Sabinas.
