Triggers & Emotions : "Cloth in the Mouth" Technique

My mentor told me, best way to manage our emotions, is by managing the triggers . But to manage something, we need to identify and measure it first. So I decided to list down my frequent triggers. (It is only a partial list, please add your frequent/favorite ones!!!)

  1. Call from Telemarketing person about credit cards and personal loans
  2. Frequent Progress Check on the growth in Career/Business by relatives and "well wishers"
  3. Son/Daughter wasting time on "unimportant" things
  4. Stakeholders not keeping commitments (Including the last minute cancellation of Airport Taxi)
  5. Stakeholder putting forward unreasonable demand (Including the Auto Driver asking for Double charge!!)
  6. Equipment stop working and technician not turning up in spite of an AMC equal to half the price of the equipment (You Guessed it right, Water Purifier!!)
  7. Unsolicited advice /suggestion from relatives and "well wishers" (including why and when you should have your 2nd child)
  8. Boss asking to comedown to office, when everything is going fine online.
  9. Low Performer getting promotion and not me, (Jealousy ?? Hey No!! )
  10. Pointing out a small error in a big speech by news Anchor or Spouse

We all know emotions are hardwired to triggers. As an Electrical Engineer I do understand what is hardwiring. It is just like the wiring of the calling-bell at home. When the calling-bell switch is pressed, bell rings. When the finger is removed from the switch, bell stops. If we can somehow stop the bell from ringing,(By Putting Cloth between Gong and Striker), for a very small duration while the switch pressed, bell can not show its emotion(the ringing sound) afterwards. Once that instant is passed, even if the cloth is removed, no sound will be heard from the bell. Are we ready to put that cloth in our mouth during that triggers? Curious to know if there is any trigger for which the "cloth in mouth" technique do not work.
