Triennial Artwork at The Cube - Artist Sinta Tantra

With the fabulous Folkestone Triennial 2017 starting next month (2nd September - 5th November 2017), it's a busy time at Martello as we work with the Triennial team and artists to finalise some of the stunning art installations.

One of the most striking commissions is sure to be '1947' - Sinta Tantra's dynamic design of circles with flowing and broken lines of colour that will transform The Cube in Tontine Street into the iconic landmark that it deserves to be. The beautiful palette of colours were inspired by a 1947 poster discovered by the artist that promoted rail travel to Folkestone as a holiday and tourism destination after the war.

Sinta Tantra is a British artist of Balinese descent with some notable public commissions to her name including work for the Liverpool Biennial in 2012 and The Southbank Centre in London.

I've been working with Jo Cowdrey from the Creative Foundation in managing the project alongside contractors Alfred Bagnall & Sons and UK Scaffolding.

From a contractor/project management perspective, the works comprise of a full external re-decoration of The Cube building in Tontine Street which houses the Kent Adult Educations Centre and was last re-decorated around a decade ago. Clearly the need to re-decorate the building, which is in the heart of Folkestone's Creative Quarter, coinciding with this year's Folkestone Triennial was too great an opportunity to miss and when revealed in the next couple of weeks it truly will be an amazing addition to the town.
