As many of us welcome uninvited visitors this week for Halloween to treat and sometimes trick, in this issue we investigate the issue of unwelcome railway visitors whose actions disrupt operations, endanger safety, and incur significant costs.

In this issue we cover:

  • Intrusion detection that isn't scary
  • Shedding light on the different types of Fiber Optic Sensing
  • Why you might not have heard of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (yet)
  • News from our roving teams who have been out and about.
  • And Finally a review of what we were up to at InnoTrans!

Intrusion Detection that isn't scary

Out of sight our fiber optic tech is silently listening to for the actions of evildoers 24/7. The trick technology is able to treat infrastructure guardians to real-time security insights with often no new lineside equipment needed.?See the little video below on how it can work for you.

Shedding light on the different types of Fiber Optic Sensing

Delve into the different types of fiber optic sensing technologies and their unique monitoring capabilities and applications

Why haven't I heard about Distributed Acoustic Sensing yet?

DAS has been around for over a decade, so why has it not gained widespread public recognition? We explore.

Sensonic out and about

Amogh Shurpali our Director of Customer Success, attended the 2nd Annual TTC Conference & Tour in Pueblo, Colorado. Over two days, he engaged with industry peers, regulators, and customers, discussing key challenges in railway safety. Our Fiber Optic Sensing technology plays a vital role in addressing these—from detecting trespassers and cable theft to monitoring landslides and rockfalls.

Last year at the inaugural TTC conference we were demonstrating some of our rockfall and landslide alerting capabilities which you can see in a few short videos below.

You can also read more about the work completed with CSX 阿尔斯通运输 and ENSCO Rail in the Railway Track & Structures publication to establish the capabilities of fiber optic sensing for detecting other disruptive infrastructure events too.

A look back at InnoTrans

Our Daniel Pyke reflected on his 2024 InnoTrans experience here

Finally for this issue of our newsletter Deep Desai gave his views on why Sensonic were at InnoTrans and what we are bringing to railways around the globe in this short video interview with Global Railway Review .
