A Tribute to Trevor Harris

Nottingham City Business Club Lunch - 17th March 2023

Dedicated to the memory of Trevor Harris

Prior to lunch being served Deborah Labbate led the following tribute to NCBC's past President, Trevor Harris.

In 1956 the first album chart was published

The first Bernie Inn Steakhouse opened

And Trevor Harris was born

Fast forward

In 2006 Trevor joined Nottingham City Business Club.

In 2007 so did I and I met Trevor.

?

I spoke to Trevor on the phone on Monday ?

Our parting words . . .

See you at The Club on Friday.

?

Trevor passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday morning.

?

To his family he was a much-treasured husband, dad, brother and uncle.

To many of us here today he was a fellow member of Nottingham City Business Club – a Club he loved and worked hard for (more on that in a moment)

And he was a trusted business contact.

And he was a friend . . .

On Trevor’s Facebook page there’s a growing number of tributes and there’s a theme . . . ?I'll share some of them with you.

?

Trev was a lovely man who was always willing to help out where he could

A true gentleman – kind, caring and trustworthy

Trevor was much loved in the business community and will be missed by many

Trev was a big character with a big heart

What a top bloke

A brilliant bloke

A very gracious gentleman

I will never forget his kindness to me when I needed it – I’m not alone in that, I’m sure

A friend has gone, but the memories live on

?

In 2009 the Club’s President approached myself and Trevor to take on the Presidency.

We were reluctant at first, but have never regretted a minute of it.

Trevor went first and was President 2010/2011 and after a year as Vice President I followed in his footsteps.

?

Trevor achieved a huge amount for the Club during his Presidential year not least bringing in automation to the booking process and a new website.?This had a significant impact on reducing the time spent on administration and the eradication of unpaid lunch invoices. (Remember the days of printing and folding invoices, stuffing envelopes and licking stamps!)

After his year as President Trevor continued to serve on the Club’s Council for many years and will have been a familiar, friendly, face to many of you at Club lunches, social events and the annual charity golf day which he ran for a number of years before handing of those particular reins to Mark Deakin.

?

Even after standing down from the Club’s council to concentrate on the many charities he supported Trevor was still a regular at lunches and a great Ambassador for the Club often bringing guests along who have since become members themselves, many of whom are here today.

?

I’m sure over lunch you will be able to share your own experiences of meeting Trevor, doing business with him, being helped by him, enjoying a laugh with him and, maybe even sharing a pint with him (or two).

He loved Nottingham City Business Club and all it stood for.

We certainly had no idea when this video clip was recorded in January that we were soon to lose him.

So, a final word from Trevor on what’s great about our almost 100 year old business Club . . . ?(a short video testimonial which Trevor recorded in January 2023 was shown).

If you hadn’t had the good fortune to meet Trevor Harris I thank you for bearing with me whilst I’ve paid tribute to him today.

For those who did know Trevor this could be a very sad day – but I’m sure that’s not what he would have wanted. ???????????????????

He really enjoyed these lunch events, and everything the Club stands for, so in memory of Trevor let’s have a great lunch.

Trevor, I raise my glass to you dear old friend, my often confidant, you really were - Simply The Best . . . Cheers! (A pint of Guinness was the toast of choice)

Members and guests went on to have an excellent lunch.

Trevor was a friend and colleague of mine for a number of years. He was without fail one of the best blokes I new, and will never forget. My thoughts are with Trevor's family and friends at this time. RIP mate.

So sad to hear this news. Trevor welcomed me into NCBC last year, he was great to talk to and had many tales!
