A Tribute to one of Humanity’s greatest Geniuses - Alan Turing
Who was Alan Turing? And why is he important?
Alan Turing is known to the world as the 'Father of Computer Science. Alan Turing invented the modern computer.
Ok, so what did he do?
He had invented the computer when he used one of his early prototypes to crack the Nazi Enigma code, which allowed the Nazis to send secret orders to one another during World War II and ultimately saved millions of lives.?
To pass on classified information, German forces used Enigma Machines during World War II. Every 24 hours, they re-encrypted the machine, making it invulnerable at the time.
An expert in both mathematics and cryptanalysis, Alan Turing and his crew invented the machine, which employed a more robust approach and helped the allies in deciphering the enemy's coded communications. With the aid of this machine, Britain was able to obtain necessary intelligence and time-critical information about the Nazi war strategy to protect millions of lives and win the war.
The Turing Machine saved millions of lives and allowed algorithm development and computation that led to modern computers. His 'Turing Machine' led the foundation for the development of modern computers. Ultimately, it led to the conceptualisation of the term 'algorithm' and the development of computation theory.
Until this day, he has influenced the development of Artificial Intelligence.
Sadly, Turing was accused of homosexual acts in 1952. As an alternative to prison, he accepted chemical castration. Ultimately, this led to Alan taking his own life. It was found that he had eaten an apple that had been cyanide-laced.?

On June 7, 1954, Turing passed away from cyanide poisoning. Although an inquiry revealed that he committed suicide, it has been observed that the available evidence also supports accidental poisoning.
An official public apology was made in 2009 by the incumbent British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on behalf of the British government for the way Turing was unfairly treated. In 2013 Alan Turing was granted a posthumous pardon by Queen Elizabeth II.
The concept "Alan Turing Law" is currently used informally to refer to a 2017 British Law that granted pardons to persons cautioned or convicted under prior laws that prohibited homosexual activity.
Alan Turing, who is regarded as the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence, deserves all praise for his contributions to computer science. Especially among those in the computer industry, he deserves to be celebrated more.
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) bestows the Turing Award every year to "an individual chosen for technological contributions of a nature made to the computing community." The Turing Award is regarded as the "Nobel Prize of Computing" and the "highest distinction in computer science." Dedicated to Alan Turing, a British mathematician and university reader at Manchester, this prize is named after him.
Alan Turing and many others have been the victim of a society’s lack of acceptance of people who are “different”.?
Pride Month embodies the spirit of diversity and inclusivity and gives us the opportunity to remember the great people of the world who during their times did not fit into the prevalent definitions of being “normal” or “acceptable” human beings despite selflessly contributing toward the progress of humanity.
We wish a happy pride month to everyone.
