Tribute to John Lewis from Jimmy Ellis

We are mourning the passing of Congressman John Lewis. He will be remembered as a soldier of African American Civil Liberty and equality who accomplished many great achievements in his lifetime. Pretty impressive of child of meager means from Troy Alabama. He was a minister, activist, councilman, and US Congressman. A renown leader in the crusade for equal and civil rights for African Americans in a time in history that was not kind to his efforts. There are many who may not have always agreed with his positions or actions but I would guess there was no one whom ever questioned his genuine commitment to his values and principles. He was labeled the conscience of congress. He was a great American in so many ways. However, as a sixth generation Atlantan, I will never forget and will always appreciate and share his love of our great city. He was a tireless servant of the citizens of the fifth district in state of Georgia. He will be missed and I pity the individual chosen to follow in his footsteps as they will truly have big shoes to fill.
