Trials Turn to Gold

I am touched by countless suffering hearts that still smile. They smile with the richness of the human spirit—unflappable faith and the nurturing synergy of empathy. As donors “suffer” from the pathognomonic symptoms of “donor fatigue”. This said fatigue does transpire, as tens of thousands of Puerto Rican families still have the infamous blue tarps that cover their broken rooves, tarps long tattered and destroyed and rendered useless: unable to withstand the heat of the Caribbean sun. But that same warmth is one that lies deep within the human heart that can still hope, and smile in adversity… as they live amongst twisted metal and survive the closure of hundreds of schools, directives made by authorities in order to save miniscule funds—that don’t pass the muster of logic—as they displace communities long scarred by the apathy, stigma and subjugated stamp of “The Ethnic Other”. The long suffered poor majority, can see the gold in the hills that surround them—and humanistic faith abounds as funds do indeed abase.

Perseverance is a Rock of justice, that crushes cynical disposition—and there are many reasons to smile.

Although banks in Puerto Rico last year ushered in record profits. I faithfully inform that multinational corporations such as Walmart—had promised this author assistance for a particular family that lost everything. In the absence of promised aid, my only option was to try as I could, to fulfill their needs with the help of the Great Architect of the Universe— which fills hearts with peace of mind and a clear conscience that listens to the plight of the poor, members of our global family. On New Year’s Eve, just yesterday afternoon, I heard the excuses of a Walmart representative touting the outstanding philanthropical deeds that this multinational behemoth had enacted to help mitigate this ongoing humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico.

Yes we smile, but we smile with knowledge; of lies that render “red-tape” of excuses and explanations that are used as a frail shield, and a flagrant refuge, devoid of fair proportion, their pockets laced with Gold, and filled with plunder of “black Fridays” that weigh them down, that are a dark anchor that does indeed plunge dark hearts into the depths of dark purpose. As they are unaware that one can’t breathe beneath the deep waters of darkened conscience—as they do build on a foundation that is intent on unjust enrichment of the privileged classes.

This is a fact that this author witnessed just yesterday afternoon, as he reminded a local general manager of a Walmart and their vow to help a particular family—that I have been privileged to assist—and I do report that their new concrete home will be completed within this great new year—2019! Built by hearts that have paid-it-forward, that shine bright more precious than Gold—as neighbors help neighbors rebuild; they see with blinding sight that does blaze through the Caribbean sky—like meteors as the poor that I call friends, are indeed rich in their Spirit—that do not go gentle into that goodnight (Dylan Thomas ).

The Precious Jewels these poor have found—give us reason to smile and to Hope, as we strive to restore an island lay-a-waste in plain sight—as the world and masses have born witness. But faith, symbolically redirects the bow of a ship, toward the East—a journey toward the Light and Wisdom of a New Sunrise, and a New Year—full of empathy, faith, hope and prosperity—for although many still live amongst twisted metal and crushed homes—these Trials have been turned to Gold with the seeing light in their eyes—“on the edge of possibility”—"THINK GLOBALLY ACT GLOBALLY”. Happy New Year my friends, my family—and best wishes to you and yours!

Faithfully Yours,

Samuel
