TRG’s SPC Open House hits right note with converters
By Robert Stabler, Managing Director, Koenig & Bauer Durst
In another example of how we stay close to our customers, we were delighted to be hosted by The Royal Group (TRG) for our first SPC Open House in the USA.
One of the incredible takeaways for me was just how positive an impact digital production is having not only TRG’s packaging business growth path, but also for the customers and fellow converters invited to its TRG Mid-Atlantic campus in Philadelphia.
We provide the most automated, productive and reliable high speed digital printing presses in folding carton and corrugated packaging markets.
Now our innovative technology has been taken a quantum step forward with the announcement of 1,000 dpi printing on our Delta SPC 130 platform as part of our continuous quality enhancements to help customers.
With the resulting further improvements of fine details and text sharpness – most noticeable in smaller fonts – we believe this is a significant step forward for the corrugated packaging markets in which we serve through our Delta SPC technology.

From the results we have already seen, this is hugely important for our customers. The big plus is that it enables them to free up work on their offset presses by transferring even more jobs to digital production in corrugated markets.
And that was a key message from converters at our SPC Open House at TRG Mid-Atlantic (and at other events in which we are involved), where we spotlighted the digital value journey with brand spotlights and live production on our Delta SPC 130 single pass press.
Printing at 1,000 dpi on corrugated brings litho quality and means more work is being transferred from offset to digital production. It also offers customers a much wider array of applications.
Reduced lead times and shorter run lengths, coupled with greater forecast unpredictability, are also among the trends driving the surge towards single pass digital printing that helps converters meet evolving demands of brand owners.
The tipping point is now. Digital has a massive future in corrugated and folding carton packaging markets. This is just the beginning.
