TrevorAI: AI Task Scheduling

TrevorAI: AI Task Scheduling

This is Generative Phil, where I try new AI tools to solve one of my real problems and give it a rating between 1 - 10 Evil Robot Overlords (10, of course, being so essential it's a little scary).

Time management is so important during convention weeks.

Last week when I was at GDC, I found myself finding quiet corridors for calls, pleasantly excusing myself from parties to catch up on e-mail, and using transit times for e-mailing.

And I'm still playing catch-up.

Can AI help someone like me who always has more work than time?

Enter TrevorAI , an AI task manager and organizer.

Let's get started.

PROBLEM

I have a ton of tasks this week that I've loaded into my Asana .

I would love TrevorAI to help me bring those tasks into my calendar, prioritize, and keep me accountable.

For this review, I'll be using sample tasks to protect the privacy of my peers and clients, but I'll be sure they're similar to my actual tasks to evaluate the platform's efficacy.

PROCESS

Free account with Google login to sign up (SCORE!!!)

Once I authenticated my account and allowed access to my Google Calendar (which always makes me nervous...) I'm immediately taken to a screen to add a task I have to do today:

The example is 'Groceries' and, by wonderful coincidence, I do need to do that today! I typed 'Groceries' and hit 'Add'.

I'm now taken to a screen asking me to connect all of my Google Calendars. When I try it, I'm blocked until I pay $3 monthly for a year ($36 annually). I love the price point, but I want to see some results before I decide.

I back out and decide to load in a bunch of tasks to see how it does: send tax forms to my accountant, follow up on AO brand campaign, GDC meeting follow-ups, Figma notes for SA, service offerings for F, and book a dentist appointment.

Now that my tasks are set, I see AI has determined most to be 30 minutes with 1 hour dedicated to groceries. That sounds about right!

I'm now able to drag and drop these tasks into my calendar.

Let's see how it goes!

RESULTS

I have some private items on my calendar, but here's a preview of what it looks like now that my tasks are in my schedule:

And when I open my Google Calendar, they're in there too under a new calendar called TrevorAI.

RATING

TrevorAI is exceptionally simple to set up and the connection with Google Calendar is seamless.

But I couldn't help to compare it to Asana. And in that case, how does AI make this a better experience?

Besides blocking out the assumed amount of time for each tasks, turning tasks into calendar entries doesn't seem like a lot of value.

I already do that.

And when I try to overlap tasks to see if they'll reconfigure based on priority, nothing happens.

I also see there's a way to have AI generate an action plan, but when I try it, it says 'Please provide a more descriptive task title'.

I'd love to see it take a crack at it, or ask me specific questions to get me to the action plan.

In other words, TrevorAI is a great promise but it's hard to see the value AI brings to task management.

That's why I'm giving TrevorAI two Evil Robot Overlords out of ten. Promising pitch, but does not feel like an improvement over Asana's free non-AI offering.
