Today at the WeWork Labs event in Berlin, we have spoken on trends and our vision for 2020, and here are my 5 cents.
First, why do we need trends or seek for patterns?
Previously, we used to sit down, research trends, and consider them for our yearly planning. We would look at what was predicted and would create a step by step plan to succeed.
Recently everything has changed: ecological situations, political situations, market developments, etc., etc. We entered the so-called VUCA world, the continuously changing world. Nothing is guaranteed, planning is not an event anymore, but a constant process of reconnecting self to a group and the environment.
During the event, I spoke about the company perspective, but here I want to concentrate on individuals. What does it mean for us?
In 2020 we will experience more stress, anxiety, and uncertainty. You doubt your decisions, and you can't predict which move will work. Brain says one thing, heart another, the body runs in the third direction.
At the same time, we will seek more fulfillment and flexibility. We look deeper inside ourselves to answer the question,” what can I create that is bigger than me?”. And those two trends clash with each other. Fear stops us from fulfillment, and flexibility creates more fear.
To overcome this dilemma, we as leaders need to concentrate on:
??1. Stabilizing and grounding ourselves through mindfulness, self-care, and self-compassion.
??2. Learning to seek for and quickly integrate required information and knowledge
??3. Improving our listening and questioning skills as a part of relating competency.
?? 4. Focusing on our strength and uniqueness of our personalities even deeper
?? 5. Making our communication style adaptive and strategical
In 2020, you can not predict what topics, moves, or resources will lead you to success. The only way you can win - prepare yourself for constant change and thrive in it.
