Trends Shaping the World of Work in 2023
Welcome to the More than Work Newsletter
In this first issue of our More than Work newsletter, we would like to share some commentaries developed by our Brand Ambassadors at Gi Group Holding, that address key trends they have seen so far this year on the global labour market.
These articles highlight individual Brand Ambassadors’ thoughts on where labour markets are headed and what skills and knowledge businesses seek, and employees need to have, to succeed in the future world of work.
We hope you will take time to give this a quick read, and we encourage you to reach out to individual authors on LinkedIn should you have any questions about their views and experiences.?
Trend 1: Change Management is here to stay
?Although the topic began to pick up speed during the first year of the pandemic, there are other factors that have been precipitating new conversations on change management since the beginning of 2023. A major issue is the Return to Work and how offices and team structures look in increasingly hybrid set-ups (i.e., featuring home office and on-premises operations). Alongside that, you have massive disruption caused by technological advances that is impacting supply chains, hiring and recruitment practices, and the skills needed in future work roles.
In her article, Maria Luisa Cammarata , Global Chief People Officer at Gi Group Holding , looks at what skills are needed to be a successful change manager.
Trend 2: CSR & DEI are critical parts of a successful corporate brand
?In July 2023, we published our annual CSR review document called Sustainable Work Report 2022, which highlighted major milestones achieved by the various divisions at Gi Group Holding ( Gi Group , Grafton Recruitment , Wyser , INTOO UK & Ireland , INTOO USA , INTOO , and more) when it comes to working with various stakeholders on national markets. The report highlights how our various teams commit to local sustainable work and community-building activities as a means of connecting better with candidates and clients.
In his article, Domiziano Pontone , Chief Corporate Sales Officer, addresses how CSR & DEI activities are helping build more cohesive teams within our Holding and turning all our divisions into work destinations of choice for individuals who wish to make differences in people’s lives through careers in recruitment, staffing and HR practices.??

Trend 3: New tech is changing business processes - HR & Recruitment are no exception
?In Q1 2023, our team member Mauricio Jiménez Morón , Managing Director at Wyser & Grafton Recruitment , took some time to explore how new technologies like integration of gaming tools into business operations are changing HR and recruitment work processes.
His remarks draw on research from the 德国科隆大学 in Germany where research shows that gaming tools have important value for making assessments on candidates’ situational judgment skills and also for measuring aptitude in social (SQ) and emotional (EQ) intelligence. Perhaps there’s hope for more engaging practices in employee recruitment with the help of gaming?
Trend 4:?Moving toward skills-focused recruitment. From Tech to Manufacturing, the demand is growing
?Since late spring 2023, there has been a lot of chatter about rethinking how workers and first-time job seekers approach training and skilling (in many cases upskilling and reskilling) in order to access the many roles on the market that remain unfilled. Important global organisations like the World Economic Forum are currently pushing for more skills-focused education for future workers and also investment by businesses and national governments into programmes that support skills-based education.
In his article, Daniele Merlerati , Chief Regional Officer APAC, Switzerland and the Baltics for Gi Group Holding , looks at what types of skills are in demand in the manufacturing sector and what programmes businesses have in place to support their acquisition.
What More Should We Expect?
As we navigate these trends, adaptability and openness to change will be key attributes for both individuals and organizations. Here at Gi Group Holding, we believe the world of work in 2023 and beyond will be marked by agility, innovation, and a collective effort to create workplaces that reflect our evolving values and aspirations. Whether it is embracing new technologies, promoting well-being, or fostering inclusivity, these trends are shaping a future of work that is dynamic and promising.
What other trends do you think are shaping the future of work? We would love to hear your thoughts. Let us know in the comments.
