The hiring industry is seeing some substantial changes in recruitment lately. Employers had dominated the market for quite a long period but currently, the employees are ruling the domain. Recruiters are often seen to be cribbing about candidates not turning up for interviews or for joining.?
There are numerous yet valid reasons that both employees and employers give, but the reality is getting worse day by day. Though understanding human nature requires multiple lifetimes but based on my experience as an HR, I have figured out some ways to overcome the ongoing manpower management and hiring crisis:???
- Give or Give up - Everyone works for their work growth and there are certain times when an employee does not see his financial, career or learning growth in his current organization. In those scenarios, either give the desired learning platforms to them or just let them go. Holding them back with false hopes and unreasonable excuses will certainly demotivate him and all others around him.
- Ethical Hiring - All of us are crying out loud for our employees not being ethical and joining other organizations without serving any notice period. But at the same time, we are preferring immediate joiners and encourage them to join ASAP. We should be considerate about the fact that he is an employee of some other company which has a 30 or 60 days notice period as well.??
- Respect Individuality - An employer's primary focus should be on getting the best out of a person while maintaining the decorum of the workplace. Still many expect their employees to act, dress and behave up to their personal perception. Individuality at work can be achieved through personalization. Small things from allowing them to bring ideas, promoting open discussions culture, furnishing their cubicles the way they see fit, to allow individuals to express themselves, it is considered to be the most efficient way of increasing their satisfaction and engagement levels.
- Ensure Quality Time Allocation - Advancement in technology has made things easier for us, but it has also brought a full box of problems too. Official internal communication and work-related apps are being installed on employees' personal phones and managers expect their employees to be responsive 24*7. This disrupts the personal/me time of people which often leads to dissatisfaction. Beware, this may kill their enthusiasm and creativity.?
- Rethink your Engagement Activities - Fun at work is the first step to making work fun. Most employers/HR feel that wishing on birthdays/anniversaries or fun Fridays can get them the employee's engagement. Making them feel that they are important and that their presence makes a difference at work is what brings their engagement. Listening to their viewpoints and recognising their efforts efficiently is the key.
