Trends in Global Governance

Trends in Global Governance

Last week I was in #Dubai for the World Government Summit where I gave a keynote address on trends in global governance - the governance we need to tackle challenges which are beyond the capacity of individual nation states to resolve on their own

I argued that the existing multilateral framework established in the mid-1940s - the United Nations and the Bretton Woods Institutions (BWIs) - isn't broken, but that is does need to be  refreshed continually to remain relevant and responsive.

There are signs of that happening in the development, environment, and human rights pillars of the UN and in the BWIs, but the peace and security pillar of the UN struggles to respond adequately to 21st century challenges.

While in Dubai, I also spoke on:

1.  UNDP's Arab States Human Development Report on "Youth and the Prospects for Human Development in the Changing Reality"; check out the report and my speech in the links below:

3. On the establishment of a private sector platform associated with the emerging World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) - this is a United Arab Emirates (UAE) initiative to promote the green economy globally. UNDP is a founding partner. WGEO is expected to become operational over the next two years. https://www.undp.org/content/undp/en/home/presscenter/speeches/2017/02/11/helen-clark-speech-at-the-private-sector-platform-launch-at-the-world-green-economy-organisation.html

I was very interested in the Arab Youth Report and wondering whether this translate into Arab youth who have migrated to other countries like Australia and New Zealand. What are your thoughts?
