Trends across Australian workplaces: Need good staff, need good process

The challenges of ‘new normal’

Our current conversations with Australian workplaces are on the hot topics of attracting talent, minimising staff turnover, and embedding new ways of working post-lockdown. This month?we explore insights from?data collected?from 185 predominately Australian organisations to look at how?staff?experienced 2021,?and trends that may influence the rest of 2022. Our data highlights?two?key issues:?

Talent challenges:?With border controls impacting?migration,?employers?have found it harder to attract talent (down 4%). In 2022, staff retention is also an emerging issue - according?to the?ABS, job mobility has been at the highest level since 2012. New ways of working require new processes:?Staff satisfaction with?processes at work dropped significantly (-4%),?feedback suggests that processes are less clear and efficient.

Our 2021 data showed that certain?industries were particularly impacted by the circumstances of the pandemic.?Aged Care?showed?a drop in staff engagement and in satisfaction with pay and benefits. Meanwhile,?Local Government?continued to show increases in?staff satisfaction in 2021.
