IT trends 2019
What is going to be focus, what will be discussed and what will be adopted? We are in the last quarter of 2018 and curious about 2019. There are lots of things which look more clear and few we can speculate. Here are my favorites:
Micro services
They are already here but there is going to be more focus around their adoption. It is debatable whether full blown Micro services with containers, orchestration and other ceremony will be the main focus tomorrow or even ever but this is going to be adopted at least in its basic form as an architectural style. Extremists may take it to the direction of SOA to ensure it death by forcing too much overhead and ceremony and this will be an interesting development to see.
Edge computing
It is not only for IoT but also for others. It is interesting to see how does it affect cloud. Whether it compliments the cloud (as many wish to happen) or will it kill the cloud. There is a lot to start in Edge computing and I guess lots of investment in Edge platforms is expected.
Quantum computing
Governments can benefit from it and they are expected to invest in its research. Right now Quantum computing hardware vendors are on growth path. In coming years Quantum computing software vendors are going to increase their growth. Software vendors are going to use this time (till 2025) to build their products and offering to be the pioneer in the field.
Artificial intelligence
Automation, autonomous machines are going to be the focus. Real artificial intelligence looks dream of little far but this subject is going be a hot topic in year 2019 too. Those who are in denial state will be left behind by 2025 but those who are investing around it will be leaders in next 5 years time.
IT security
This is not a new subject but companies will have to take it seriously. If we don't see serious adoption by governments, organizations, financial institutions, we will see cyber war and cyber terrorism very soon. The way citizen data is at serious risk on various platforms (social media as well as with some government agencies) it is going to create serious trouble by 2020. It will be interesting to see if organizations keep doing lip service or they are serious and ready for cyber crimes in near future.
I will be waiting for your own list for 2019 IT trends in the comments below.
