Trending in Recruitment

I have noticed a few things happening within the recruitment arena lately and thought I would share my observations with you.

One trend that appears to be taking off at the moment is companies recruiting contingent workers. There are a few names for this bandied around right now. These include contracting, consulting, or the “gig economy”. Increasing numbers of companies are choosing to “rent” rather than hire talent. This is even happening at the director level and above with CEO on Demand becoming quite the thing!

In addition, skill requirements are becoming broader. Some enlightened companies are beginning to hire creatively to attract the best people. For example hiring back previous employees. Or perhaps hiring from the array of highly-skilled newcomers arriving daily.

There also appears to be more leveraging of HR technology tools and sites. Leveraging data in your recruitment process presents both a challenge and an opportunity. In 2017, data is likely to enhance the human-centric aspect to recruitment. Candidate experience is also rising to the surface rather than qualifications.

The approach to candidate experience though may be different in 2017. How? I see organisation’s focusing on mapping out their candidate journey. This allows organisations to view the journey of candidates’ experience through the recruitment process (i.e. initial reach out -to offer stage). This is likely to allow companies to engage quicker and close faster. More companies are turning away from traditional Recruitment Consultants. Instead, they are looking at Recruitment Specialists to help them fill their vacancies.

With job seekers short on time and job hunting on the move, recruiters and employers will need to think mobile first. They will need to ensure that their web pages are optimised for display on mobile screens. Satisfaction rather than money will become more important with job seekers. Standout ads and exceptional recruiting processes will play a huge part in recruiting talent in 2017. The competition to attract quality candidates will increase.
